View Full Version : Where to get a cut-throat shave?
Hello all,
First time posting on the site but I've been a keen lurker for a few weeks now. I'm getting Married in Dinnington in December and was wondering if anyone knows where me, my best man, and my dad could get a 'proper' cut-throat shave either near Dinno or in the City on the morning of the wedding?
Cheers,
Burnage

UnkleBob 11-08-2005, 18:12 my sister is a traditional men's barber and i'm sure she used to do this on request. And she's just started working in the Chesterfield area, but i dont know exactly where. Next time i se her i'll ask her.

Chesterfield's a long way to go just for a shave though... :P
Cheers for getting back quickly, Chesterfield shouldn't be too far. Staying at the Marriot near the Parkway roundabout on the M1 and the wedding's not til 3.
beansforyou 11-08-2005, 19:17 Bogarts in Hillsborough do them :)

I agree.
I'd give it a miss if i was you.....it literally is a very close shave......reckon you could end up red raw if you aint used to it.
Not a great look for the piccies!!
Hmmm, some food for thought there, wanted to have a nice family bonding thing not nightmare on Elm St! Some more thought required methinks.
I think the subject was brought up somewhere within this thread (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23987) (and if it wasn't it makes good reading anyway :) )
If you want a bit of family bonding before the big event, why not think about going to Spa1877 (the old Glossop Rd baths) for some relaxation, sauna etc? You could also book in for a facial/massage so you'll be squeaky clean and relaxed.
on a similar topic on average boys how long does it take 4 u to have a shave

MissGobby 12-08-2005, 12:26 Burnage, you can go to Bogarts which is down hillsborough, get off the tram at "Hillsborough Park" and its straight across the road, Alan Quinn(ex-SWFC player and recent SUFC player)'s girlfriend owns it, very nice service!
JonJParr 12-08-2005, 12:39 I'm a recent convert to the joys of electric shaving having always shaved with a traditional blade and gel since those first hairs sprouted on my chin, top lip and neck and I'll never look back.
Traditional razor shaving is painful and so damaging to one's skin. My skin is sensitive and as such I always had to use Clinique shave gel and post shave lotions which are fairly expensive. However, far more annoying than the cost of products were the large patches of razor burn that I used to get despite the use of designer cosmetics. In the end I got so fed up that I decided to do some research into the electric shavers available on the market.
From reading reviews on the Internet and speaking with friends I ascertained that the Braun Activator series were by far the best. They have a base that automatically cleans (with perfumed alcohol) the blades and block when needed and dries them afterward. Additionally the microprocessor inside senses when charging and discharging of the battery is needed and does it automatically so that the life of the battery does not diminish over time.
My electric shaver : http://www.shavers.co.uk/shopping.php?product_id=39
(ps: wish I'd seen that deal on Shavers.co.uk before I bought it in Boots!)
The initial outlay was pretty hefty I'll admit - £180 and then there's the ongoing price of Braun Clean & Charge cartridges which are £7 for two (each cartridge lasts a month if cleaning is done after every shave) but I'm easily making that back with not having to buy Clinique M-Shave and Post Shave Lotion. The shave is so much closer and no matter how many times I have to run over a problematic area there's never any irritation. In the morning I pick it up out of the base and it smells fresh and looks brand new. Shave and drop back into the base for a 33-53 min automatic cleaning cycle.
I'll never, ever go back to a razor again.
I can recommend Headmaster, on Barber Road in Crookesmoor (heading up to Walkley past the Uni), tel 0114 267 1840
not quite in the city centre, but really good :)
Again, not in the city centre, but Sweeneys on Abbeydale Road (the one in that little shopping bit near the Hutcliffe Wood end of Archer Road) did me a great cut-throat shave and mini-facial with hot towels and things before my wedding in 2003. There's only one girl who does the cutthroat, though, so you'll have to ring up beforehand and make sure she's working on the day you want to go.
