Just been to tesco and they say they dont do them, are they rare or something? Thanks That's very odd! All supermarkets should have them. They're not rare or unusual. They're usually in little cardboard boxes by the spice bottles. medusa 12-01-2010, 12:12 Someone at Tesco has no idea what's in their own herb and spice department! Any supermarket which is big enough to have the herb and spice racks should have dried bay leaves. It's been a while since I had to buy any (because I've got a bay tree in my back garden) but they're a pretty standard herb. Treatment 12-01-2010, 12:23 It's a pity that I don't live in Sheffield, I have a 16 feet high Bay Tree. chanser 12-01-2010, 12:37 Thats right, in boxes or tubes with the rest of the spices. HotPhil 12-01-2010, 12:41 Schwartz is the most popular brand. Any supermarket should have them, look for a box like this: http://www.britishfooddirect.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1637 amongst similar boxes. Tesco Infirmary Road they're just in front of the fish counter. chanser 12-01-2010, 12:51 you can also get them in any continental grocers. snowportjo 12-01-2010, 13:02 Hi, we have two bay trees in the garden, and I've added fresh leaves to curries but didn't notice any detectable favour... so you might be able to get away without it. Oh, you are welcome to come to our garden to pick some! Oh, you are welcome to come to our garden to pick some! Spj Bay leaves are not strongly flavoured enough to make a difference to a usual curry but they do impart a lovely flavour to the rice if cooked with it. chanser 12-01-2010, 13:18 What is the meal you are cooking? Just been to tesco and they say they dont do them, are they rare or something? ThanksI think the employee you spoke to must have been a complete numpty! Bay leaves are as common as any other basic herb or spice. They are generally put into traditional casseroles etc to enhance the flavour. snowportjo - from Wikipedia: "The fresh leaves are very mild and do not develop their full flavor until several weeks after picking and drying." If eaten whole, bay leaves are pungent and have a sharp, bitter taste. As with many spices and flavorings, the fragrance of the bay leaf is more noticeable than its taste. When dried, the fragrance is herbal, slightly floral, and somewhat similar to oregano and thyme madagasca 12-01-2010, 14:08 I always get mine from morrisons louisbourg 12-01-2010, 21:00 hi there if you still need them , martins good to go in the wicker stock them , i think 79p :) open 8am - 8pm Flowersfade 26-01-2010, 01:31 I bought some today from a asian grocery shop on abbeydale road x |
