Emusic looks OK, but as per usual UK comsumers pay significantly more than users in the USA (42p per track in UK, 31p in USA for cheapest monthly subscription). Emusic works on a monthly subscription, and credits do not roll over to the following month, so you may end up buying music you don't really want just to use up your credits.

amazon also do MP3 downloads, as do play.com.

You could try spotify - you can't download the tracks but myself haven't really felt the need to given you can play them again and again.

But if you want to transfer them to a mp3 player you do.

I used e-music about a year ago and the catalogue was really small. I don't think they even had half of the stuff I wanted to download.

Has it changed?

What's wrong with iTunes?

Spotify - Total Recorder records any sound that your PC is playing, and can save as mp3.

I use eMusic and it works out about 20p per track.:D I got a good deal!
Not as big a range of tracks as say iTunes, but there's more than enough music to use up my 50 tracks per month limit. The library is biased to more interesting/independent tunes than poppy chart hits.
The sound quality is also much better than iTiunes and no DRM.

Yes - ban the internet!!!

It's only about as illegal as recording a tv program onto VHS tape or DVD.

The software's legal, it's what you do with it that might not be.

Here's the manufacturer's site if you wish to complain.

You won't find many mainstream bands on this website but the music is totally free - you are encouraged to make a donation to the music you download. Its run in much the same way that GNU/Linux is created under GPL - the music is created under Creative Commons License - its free to download and share without fear of Mandelson!

www.jamendo.com - the hyperlink is embedded at the end of my signature!

I paid $35 for a lifetime membership of MP3ROCKET about 2 years ago, and it's been money well spent as far as I'm concerned. Music, Films, TV etc, no complaints. :headbang:

Still dodgy downloads though....I think you've been done...you're paying for stuff you can get for free, and it's just as illegal..
