View Full Version : Can anyone recommend a carpet supplier/fitter?
Squirrel 18-12-2003, 14:32 Hi
I'm looking for recommendations for good suppliers/fitters of carpets for my house. I was considering John Lewis but had a bad experience with them (but would be interested to hear if anyone has a more positive view).
Thank you
Pyramid Carpets on Chesterfield Road (Woodseats) were good when they did a lino floor in my kitchen one year ago.
They'll come and do a free quote too.
Mintons on Broadfield Road does a good selection of the "natural" carpets.
Squirrel 18-12-2003, 14:50 Blimey! Thanks for the speedy responses - I hadn't realised how good this forum was. I'd never heard of Pyramid or Mintons, but will check them out. Thanks again

Fantastic! I've been looking around all the main carpet places looking for some natural carpet, not sure exactly which material yet but none of the main showrooms do anything, only place that I saw any was Within Reason on Devonshire Street, but they were £30 a square metre or something :wow:
I'll have to go and have a look there! thanks
They specialise in natural looking carpets.
We've found the staff at Mintons really helpful and they usually have a selection of carpets on at sale price.
tinajones 29-12-2003, 19:14 I'm trying for a carpet at the mo.
I've tried Pyramid Carpets on Chesterfield Rd but they and their fitting service is expensive (although 48hr service), plus they talked down to me like I was wasting their time even though I told them exactly what I was after.
Carpet Right are cheap but the serice was shoddy and their turn around time is 2 weeks - I want one now!!!
Arrrrrrggh. Wheres this Mintons? Near Heeley Swim Baths?
And what about Balfours on Stanniforth Rd, - any reports?
Any one got any reccommendations atall?! Please!!! I need someone to cut me some rug asap!!!
*Twinkle* 29-12-2003, 20:58 We have Ponsfords carpets... They have top quality carpets, but the fitters are a bit dozy to say the least...

As in Ponsfords (furniture) on Chesterfield Rd? Its far to expensive for me and my spare room but I'm going to shop there when I get married to Barney.

kingsland 31-01-2007, 15:53 Hi
Try looking on the internet, you can save alot of money online. Ebay has a few shops, or do a search in google. You do get what you pay for though. Even though a carpet may look similar to one you seen somewhere else, they can vary in quality quite substantially. Research suggests many consumers don't even feel the carpet when they are looking around. Yet the only real determinant with carpet quality is its feel. Look around for 5 year wear guarantee's offered by manufacturers, if this sort of guarantee is offered, you can be certain that it will last and is made of hard wearing materials.
Use my pricelist to compare against your local and Internet shops. Most shops will stock the carpets that are contained in our pricelist. A few exceptions are Allied and Carpet right, who change the carpet ranges names to steer off competition.:suspect:
You can also request samples so you can feel the quality

purdyamos 31-01-2007, 16:15 Lol, reading all the references to 'natural carpet' I imagined open fields growing the stuff like turf. Bit surreal!

we got our room carpet from glenn mill carpets, have to say we got a real bargain and the fitting was spot on.
MonkeyLover 01-02-2007, 21:23 I was recommended a carpet shop, it is at Hackenthorpe - tel no 01142481122. They quote a price per square yard/metre, and that is including fitting, underlay, rods, grippers etc. It is a family-run firm, been on the go for years and years - and very reasonable and efficient. I was well pleased with my hall/landing/staircase carpet and the lino in the bathroom.
glassrat 02-02-2007, 18:01 Twelvetrees in Upperthorpe - looks, not good, service and choice - spot on!
longshado 24-02-2008, 23:54 I can definately recommend a search on the internet. You will find almost anything you wish for any floor covering. Pyramid carpets have a wide range.

does he fit lino? i've got a big roll waiting to be fitted in my bathroom...

maxwell1945 25-02-2008, 20:55 Give a shop called Hedley Witham at High Green /chapeltown. )1142848707,a ring. Not a very glamorous shop premises but carpets and fitters are top class.Got ripped off of big time by Allied carpets and was recommended by some one to Whithams.Top rate.
we bought a fantastic quality carpet direct from the factory at Barnsley - Shaw's
they have a genuine factory shop selling roll ends and discontinued lines (and their roll ends are somewhat larger than normal shops envisage!)
if buying British and limiting delivery miles is of any importance to you, you can't get carpet with lower mileage on it!
they have their own fitters too :)

Couldn't agree more, Balfour Carpets have done our whole house (apart from kitchen and bathroom) since we moved in in July. The advice and service are great and we are very happy with the results. The second time we ordered the carpet and had it fitted within the same week.
