January Photography Competition: The Chill

After a disappointing year for the photography competition I'm hoping we'll kickstart 2010 with a better theme. Please encourage ANYBODY to enter :)

The competition is open to ALL members of the Sheffield forum whether you've got a camera phone or the latest professional DSLR so read on...

The theme for January 2010 is 'The Chill' and with the weather over the last few weeks there is plenty of raw material out there. The theme of each month is open to interpretation and other than the technical rules listed below we expect that each photographer will interpret the theme in a slightly different way, leading to a more exciting competition each month.

If you wish to submit an entry for the January competition you must register at http://gallery.sunset-studio.co.uk/. Once registered, head to the January Photo Competition album http://gallery.sunset-studio.co.uk/v/Jan10/. Open the side bar, and 'add items'.

Rules
Please only upload one image per month. In previous months we have had to remove entries from the competition due to duplicate submissions. Although this is a 'bit of fun' we have rules to ensure a level and fair playing field. PLEASE follow these.

Submissions are anonymous to other members, and the only person who can see the members name is myself. Images are automatically resized to 640px (relative to prevent distortion) in order to ensure a fair playing field, and to protect the copyright of your images.

Submissions must be made by the last day of the month. On the first day of the following month a poll will be opened in the Sheffield Photography forum, and will remain open for one week. In the event of more than 25 submissions, a system of heats & a final will be used to decide the winner.

All work must be your own, but any member of the Sheffield Forum may enter. We encourage everybody to have a go, and you don't need professional or DSLR equipment to be in with a chance. It's all in the moment.

Wow - blown away by some of the entries this month!

This is brilliant, I like the idea. And it's even more of an excuse for me to try get a DSLR.

I think we're waiting for Hook to start a new thread with a poll on it so people can vote.

give the guy a break - we are only just into February and you have no idea what his home life has been like these last few days (work/relationships/weather etc).

This is supposed to be a 'fun' competition.

And incidently my interest dropped off last year due to no time in my daily life to access SF, let alone find time to take pictures to submit.

You're right Lollie, and I wasn't having a dig at anyone. At least I wasn't intending to.

But if the poll isn't available soon then a lot of perople will stop bothering to check IMO. Maybe this is why the popularity of the competition has waned a little.

I reckon a faster turnaround would be better... first half of month to submit photo; second half for voting. So all of January's competition would be in January. Just my 2p.

But anyway, I've entered one so vote for me! :P

sorry i jumped all over you smithster - but i read it as if you were having a go and i am sure there is a good reason why its not been sorted out.

garydickson - what a brilliant idea - especially if we have a list of the proposed monthly 'topics' in advance.

It would definately give me a chance to get some pictures taken in advance as home life can be a bit hectic at times and there is not enough time for me to take photos 'to order'.
