Shiesh 11-08-2005, 00:37 Yeah here here....my kid loves milk but I can't let him take it to school as they have been known to put the kids packed lunches next to radiators...no idea teachers.....humphh!! :( love_hearts 11-08-2005, 11:53 Yuk! I hated drinking milk at school, I did everything to get out of it to no avail. I don't think I've drunk plain milk since, it was that traumatic.:gag: H.P 11-08-2005, 12:09 I remember the mini glass bottles we used to have at rivelin school, I also remember how horrid they tasted when they had been left out in the sun for an hour or two in the summer :gag: but in the winter they were lovley and cool.. I think milk at school is still free to the under fives whos familys are reciving certain benefits. but like shiesh says for some reason the teachers seem to leave the milk laying round in the worst possible places. The other week I was in the entrance to the school and the milk delivery was sat festering next to the heating pipes :( bertie749 11-08-2005, 12:09 I didn't mind the milk in school but it was the Dundee biscuit which I liked the most ... and started my chocolate obsession ...mmmmmmmmmmm Cake 11-08-2005, 12:11 I used to be a "Milk Monitor" at Primary School - like you say, great in the winter but in the summer it was :gag: Milk is free for all under 5's and you can pay something like £5 a half term for over 5's to have milk. samc 11-08-2005, 12:14 Originally posted by bertie749 I didn't mind the milk in school but it was the Dundee biscuit which I liked the most ... and started my chocolate obsession ...mmmmmmmmmmm Did you get biscuits with your milk? Bahhh, we didn't. Did everyone in Sheffield get a biccie? I only liked the milk when it was Winter and had been left outside and had frozen on the top and we used to bash through the ice with our blue straws. bertie749 11-08-2005, 12:23 Sorry not from Sheffield .... from the North West. Well they had to give us something to make up for location.... before anyone else says!! Hopman 11-08-2005, 12:41 Books or bottles? Which would you prefer money spent on in schools? Mo 11-08-2005, 12:56 Many schools still do provide free milk for the youngest children. They also provide fruit for keystage 1 children. teeb 11-08-2005, 22:33 i have never been able to drink milk on its own and can remember being forced to drink it at school, boking until i was sick - i had to have a note from home so that i was not FORCED to drink it PerlOfWisdom 12-08-2005, 02:27 Do you mean that the milk suppliers should provide milk for free, or just that someone other than parents should be forced to pay for it? teeb 12-08-2005, 08:14 as i recall from my school days, whilst milk was provided at school, and was compulsory, you used to have to pay weekly for the milk (unless on benefits) Mo 12-08-2005, 08:27 Originally posted by PerlOfWisdom Do you mean that the milk suppliers should provide milk for free, or just that someone other than parents should be forced to pay for it? Free at the point of drinking it but obviously somebsody has to pay. In this case it is the school. The education authority as far as I know do not pay for it so it must come from the schools budget. There is a scheme run which provides EEC subsidised milk in schools but it reuires that the school provides the admin necessary for collecting the money from parents. When I last looked into it, it was 12p per day. However schools do not seem willing to take this up. Don't think that they have time/can be bothered to collect the money and run the scheme. Will find link and add later. Cranberry 12-08-2005, 16:44 Times have moved on - get with the programme. If milk was brought back there'd have to be a vegan alternative, there are also children who are lactose intolerant so what about them? Hows'about these little bottles with friendly bacteria in, are they better for children? Before we know where we are there'd be litigation cases - your milk made my child sick, cough up some spondoolicks. The worlds a different place, not worse just different. poppins 12-08-2005, 17:22 Whats the reason you want milk to be free ? |
