A family members of mine Boiler has packed up , This has left them with no hot water or heating - around 4 or 5 days ago , a workman was called out on the first day on the emergency number BUT had to come from Leicester
He could not do that much but said he would contact Sutton est and tell them its a Emergency as both the family members are pensioners,
My family member contacted sutton est by phone and seeing them at there office on dunella rd, to which they have sent two of the smallest electric heaters i have ever seen - They also said someone else would have to come up to confirm the boilers packed up -
Now after phone calls and going down they are still waiting!!! my family member even stated they would go to the star if this carries on -to which the bloke/manager seemed to have IF YOU WISH attitude!
Also today my older family member was talking to a friend on the est that cant get out much same thing kind of happend with boiler and its been 3weeks so far !!
My family members have lived on the est for over 30 yrs and any repair does not seem to happen/ get done quick!! i think this is shocking . At one time they did have workmen on the est and things got sorted- but due to cutback they dont have any workmen on the est it seems now !
Ive offered to go down and see the manager BUT my family members have said no so far - (think there a bit set in there ways if you know what i mean)
So what other options are there etc ??
or do you live on the est and are having problems the same ??
Hi
Get in touch with social services explain every thing to them that they are pensioners and the temperature they are living in i am sure they will get things done
the houses belong to another housing association now and things seem to have changed with regards customer services.
Does the house have any other form of heating? Gas Fire for example? If it does, this doesnt help as they wont see it as an emergency.
Good luck getting it sorted, remember though, if the boiler needs new parts they will have to be ordered and this will delay the repair even further.

The Emergency bloke that came out stated it need a brand new boiler,
There house does have a gas fire - but to be honest They try to keep there bills down as they cant afford to keep it on,
Ive offered for them to stay with me but they are too proud etc
I just Think the sutton est has gone down hill with repairs etc and its shocking that they treat old folk like this, Ive finding hard not to go down and see the manager and give him what for - but that wont help !!

Really sorry to hear that Barmy. If they won't accept help like staying with you, perhaps extra woarm clothes or shopping for them - I'm not trying to be sanctamonious and now you will have done all that but stubborness in the elderly is truly mis-guided. By the way - can't buy a loaf of bread anywhere for love nor money so make sure they have plenty to eat to at least keep up internal body temperature. Have you thought about the Star action desk, or similar on Radio sheffield? They often do have the knack of making these companies that operate on party lines and not humanity deliver. Good luck to them and you.

Hi
It may help if you point out to them that they have had £200 heating allowance of the government this year and maybe cold weather payments as well i think there has been three payed so there is no reason for them not to be warm plus they are not paying for the heating they would be enjoying if there boiler was working i am sure if you explained this to them they would realise that they can well afford to put the heating that they have got on, it may save there lives

I agree about the stubborness with them ;) they are a pain in the bum with this.
If they have not come by 3 today im going down to see them , they should not treat elderly like this !
