View Full Version : Any decent B.Y.O restaurants on a Friday night.
Hi All,
I would like to treat my parents to a meal out next Friday. As my Dad is a bit of a wine connosieur I would like to be able to my own to keep costs down. Does anyone know of anywhere decent within a 3 or so mile radius of Dore/Totley, that they could recommend or is there no-where that still does bring your own at the weekend. (Any cuisine is fine).
Thanks everyone.
BOHEMIAN 07-01-2010, 16:31 hi! try something different something new!

we have meat option for meat eaters!!
sorry that link not working
Looks like the domain registration has recently lapsed for the Bohemian website :(
You might want to weigh up other factors in choosing your restaurant. In my experience, those that tend to advertise BYO aren't the best. You'd save a few quid on drink, but the food might be naff. Just my tuppence.
Otto's on Sharrowvale Rd is really nice and their upstairs room is unlicenced and is BYO. The food is mediteranean with quite a few Morrocan dishes. It's run by the people who run the Mediterranean further along Sharrowvale and is a bit cheaper but still really good quality. I had a fish tagine there a while back which was absolutely delicious. I'm pretty sure they've got a website.
You could try Chez Lahlou on Commonside. They used to do BYO but not too sure if they still do.
cloudjuice 07-01-2010, 19:51 http://www.thestar.co.uk/food/Bring-your-own-wine-to.5305539.jp might help, there are also a fair few other threads on this. check some of them out.
neeeeeeeeeek 07-01-2010, 20:09 BB's on Division Street. Persoanlly I think it's rubbish but lots of people like it! Go with the Bohemian, it's reet good.
If you like Persian then Shirraz on Abbeldale road is good, they have a license but have never complained when you BYO.
Smithster 07-01-2010, 21:07 La Lunas on Eccy Road (near the Banner Cross) is a nice little Italian place with a BYO policy, but they do get quite busy and the last time a few of us went there we had to wait ages for our food.

THIS. Highly recommended if you like your Italian.
If it is still open then Jabu is always good :)

Merry_Legs 08-01-2010, 11:42 I second Otto's, can also drink your own wine downstairs too. Also Zeugma (Turkish) on London Road is great and I think only £2 corkage.
Hiya i 3rd ottos its really nice, or portofinos & Kitos on chesterfield road

Hi
we do BYO wine or beer at Otto's Restaurant 7 days a week.
(Corkage £2 per bottle for wine, £1 for beer).
We also have a licensed bar downstairs so people booked downstairs can still
have their before dinner drink if they wish.

with all due respect my friend your comments are without foundation! its very rude to make a comment about any place or any type of place with out going there your self and continuesly having a bad experience!
i dont want to start a debate but its just not fair for you to make such a sweeping comments. thanks.
You're suggesting I haven't repeatedly had a bad experience at a restaurant? That's a comment without foundation!!
I made no comment on your restaurant, good or bad.
bigbladerob 12-01-2010, 18:18 Kito's on Woodseats! lovely place!
Hi
just because a restaurant does BYO doesn't mean the food is rubbish.
A lot of restaurants now do byo part of the week to encourage customers looking to cut costs but still eat out. BYO is all about that, not an excuse for poor food. It is no longer considered "downmarket" as it used to be, just good value.

I'd agree - £15 bottle of wine + £2 corkage = £17. Buy a £17 bottle of "house" wine in most restaurants and you'll be getting a bottle of £5 plonk. I think a lot of restaurants have cottoned on to people wanting decent food and wine but not willing to pay the huge mark-ups often applied to wine in restaurants.
Only bugger with BYOB as I see it is you need to decide the wine without reference to the menu. But that's hardly the restaurant's fault!
Bubba Ray 14-01-2010, 12:14 Rajput on commonside does BYO and does not charge a corking fee. It is unfounded that BYO places food is rubbish as Rajput is lovely.
As for the BOHEMIAN I wish places would not hock their wares on forums such as this, you cannot look on a thread about restaraunts without some spam popping up. Also if you are BYO put it on your website as it does not say it anywhere and while you are there sort out the text, aparently you "fist opened in June 2006" as well ans other errors. Sorry it just looks a bit cheap. Food may be nice (never been so won't comment on it) there but put some effort into your presentation.
Thats my 2 pence worth.
upthetykes 15-01-2010, 14:03 I like fish and chips on me way home with a bottle of alright wine waiting for me when I get there. About half seven tonight I reckon.
Buon Deli in Broomhill is BYO all week. Great food!
