what has killed darnall and the libs club.......quite a straightforward question on the face of it, but heres the facts.. there used to be tons of people on darnall when i was growing up in 1976-9 and the darnall libs was so packed they had to build a much bigger concert room, you could say that the steel works have gone, but i still dont think thats enough,
what about the smokin ban, well yes but it was on the decline years ago, cheap booze in shops.... well yes but the club provided bingo,live entertainment, snooker, games nights, and when i was a kid you still had your beer off,s like .. bates wine shop,,
the people moved away, well i dont think thats the reason,
take the arundel,and manor club.. packed out
what has turned darnall into the ghost town it is today, and the libs close?

cant think of those 2 characters, can remember market tom, and dot, harry who served and waited, sonny the glass collector and jimmy the glass collector, some of the snooker lads upstairs,

Yes and no! I have lived in Darnall for around 10 years and have slowly seen a decline. Morrisons closing was a big part in the decline. One of the main things I have noticed is that a lot of the houses have been bought by unscrupulous landlords that let only to benefit claimants in a mad way to secure rent.
Many of the new Darnall residents are just East European benefit parasites unfortunately.
As for the decline of the Libs,this was bound to happen when most of the new Darnall residents would rather drink in the street from 10am until unconsciousness rather than have a few drinks with friends while being entertained by a band or comedian.

The East Europeans are probably drinking in the morning because unlike most they are prepared to work the night shift, everyone deserves a day off eh!
Their introduction to the UK is probably a bed in a shared flat rental contract with 2nd generation immigrant landlords.

Obviously you do not venture to Darnall much and see these people first hand by your first statement. The second statement is nearly the truth though.

I was drinking in the morning the other day with fellow Europeans, some of them look more English than me! They learn Yorkshire slang good enough for me anyhow :hihi:

Feel free then to reopen the libs then for our east european "friends" who will drink from 10 am. I am sure you will bring perfect harmony to Darnall.

It's not just limited to the Libs though what happened to the Conservative Club? Had one of the best snooker tables in Sheffield. There were also some great pubs like the Halfway with the bowling green at the back.
