16:00 Thinking Allowed
Laurie Taylor travels to Sheffield to visit Norfolk Park Housing Estate. Built in the 1960s with 15 high rise blocks set in rolling parkland, the estate was much loved by the residents. But in the early '90s the decision was taken to demolish the towers and re-develop the estate.

Ten years on, most residents are still waiting to be re-housed. What went wrong and why has well-intentioned council policy failed so many of those who lived on the estate?

You can hear it by looking for the "Listen Again" box on this BBC page. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/factual/thinkingallowed.shtml) (programme lasts 30 minutes)

Thank you for the link to what is a fascinating, and at times extremely saddening, programme.

I took part in some similar programmes for Radio 4 some time ago to do with Kelvin Flats and the clearance programme. One was called "The view from the window was lovely" and featured Roy Hattersly who had grown up in the area before the flats were built.

Programmes such as these are an important part of local history.

kelvin flats used to be on infirmary road. they were 13 stories high and about a third of a mile in length.

pulp mentioned them in a couple of songs. the human league recorded an early single opposite them. they were pulled down in 1993.

i lived there from 1989 to 1991.

Wow, thanks for the pictures, fantastic memories. I never realised such a massive development existed on infirmary road.

Thanks for sharing!
