View Full Version : Weather in Canary Islands.
Amyvictoria 04-01-2010, 09:13 I have the opportunity to go to Lanzerote in the Canary Islands in a few weeks. Has anyone been at this time of year? What is the weather like? I’ve looked at what it is supposed to be like and I’ve looked at the 5 day forecast. It is supposed to be dry and warm but the 5 day forecast shows two days of rain in that 5. Is this usual? When not raining will it be hot enough to sunbath?
Thanks.

I've been before in November time and it was mid 70's. It depends what side of the island, Puerto Del Carmen is warmer and will be fine. If you go to Playa Blanca it might be a tad cool as it seems to get more clouds and is windier.
Grandad.Malky 04-01-2010, 09:47 I have been to Tenerife which is supposed to remain worm but gets cloudy in the north and some of the other islands get strong winds, cant be as cold as here though can it, happy hol`s
I've spent two winters in the canaries. It never gets cold there. T shirt weather nearly every day.

I was surprised to see that the timeshare red zone (dearest) is in the winter months rather than the summer that tells a story in its self.
callippo 04-01-2010, 10:55 it never drops below about 15 at sea level, though it can of course get very cold indeed up on Mount Teide. It can rain, even heavily sometimes at this time of year, but it's definitely a good climate. In fact right now it would suit some people more than others in that it's not too hot. My dad's there now incidentally, it's 22 degrees. Perfect kind of temperature for most British people, especially older ones, who just don't like the really hot weather, i.e. 30 degrees plus, all that much.

That brings back the memories, it takes your breath away, literally , I didn’t make it up all those steps to the highest point
neeeeeeeeeek 04-01-2010, 11:15 Winter, from December till March, is warm with cool nights. The average high temperature drops to around 21°C for most of the season, creeping up to 23°C in March. Night time lows fall to 16°C in December, 14°C in January and 13°C in February, getting back up to 15°C in March. Daytime temperatures in the low 20s will be preferable to the summer highs for many and the cool nights can come as a relief. Again, if the sirocco wind blows temperatures can be send into the high 20s and sandstorms can develop, but this is more likely in the summer.
Rainfall does increase in this season but storms are only expected on around five days in each month and they do not tend to last for very long. This can cause flash flooding but the inconvenience caused is usually short-lived. These brief bursts of rain leave plenty of time for sunshine and most days see at least seven hours . The sea temperature drops to its coolest from February till April, but at 18°C is still just warm enough for swimming. People may find that smaller bodies of water, hotel swimming pools for example, do not have time to heat up in the day after the cool nights.
Oh no, only just warm enough to swim in the sea.. Sod that, go to Clackhuddersfax instead.
:)

Or just pick an hotel with a indoor pool.
Amyvictoria 04-01-2010, 14:20 Thank you everyone. Sounds like it will be nice and warm :)
callippo 05-01-2010, 02:04 that's it. Warm but not too warm.
but they still manage to sell Timeshare apartments with inch-thick carpets. Just like the jolly old English breakfasts, it makes the punters feel at home.
BananaSplit 05-01-2010, 11:31 We went to Gran Canaria at the end of January in 2002 - it was perfect for sunbathing during the day, but tended to cool down late afternoon (5ish) and I regretted not taking any cardies with me for night-time, so ended up buying some there, so deffo pack a couple of light woolies for the evenings!
