Hi, does anyone know what age a Cockerel wud start crowing? I have a sneaky suspicion that 1 of my girls may not be a girl :(

Mine started crowing at 6 months ,luckily my neighbours like the sound.

the saddle feathers will be pointed and not rounded if it is a cockerel.

did you buy it as a hen or breed it?

post some photos and i will have a look. i can normally tell at a few weeks but they dont start crowing till they are much older x what breed are they? im after another cockerel may be able to do a swap for a girly of mine :)

Thanks all, i bought 4 hens, they're pekin bantams. Had them since the summer, so i guess they're around 8 months now. One is much bigger than the others, and is developing more of a crown and wobbly chin thing than the others lol. Tried to upload photos but failing miserably as my stupid bluetooth is playing up. Will try again tomorrow, and also have a look at her feathers.

I would have thought that a young cockerel would have started crowing a while before 8 months old. :)
I have heard tales of he-she's though where a hen takes on cockerel characteristics!

here's a photo of Marjorie. It's not brilliant but u can sort of see the size of her crown and wobbly chin compared to Dorothy's. I'll try n get more later if it ever stops snowing!
