I know a few friends who have found employment where they take a day or two to go to University. This really appeals to me but i have no idea where to find a position like it. I'm quite open minded in terms of what i do as i feel that my skills are quite transferable. I've worked as a manager in the past and i have great work ethic.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks x

Have you looked at the open university? If you already have a job that is.
At a glance not entirely sure how it works looks like to get a degree you require 360 points made up of about 10 of their other course (about £400 a pop) then do the degree :|
You might make more sense of it than me.

There are rules that ANY employer has to follow regarding this type of thing. No matter what your job you have right to some kind of release for education. Many courses exist, I remember a fantastic language course at Sheff Hallam a few years ago, one full day and eve. completely free to both employer and employee. It was fully accredited and you got credits towads other courses to make up a degree.
A quick search at the Chamber of Commerce and Business link might come up with whats available.

I know from my wife that the civil service departments and local government organisations such as councils and the police run internal education schemes for staff where they have the opportunity to apply for funding for uni courses whether they are job related or not, though the amount of money they are rewarded depends on that.

If you work at Sheffield Hallam you can do a uni course free of charge, Sheffield uni might have a similar policy too
