View Full Version : Which restaurant for my birthday?
HappiDayz 02-01-2010, 19:40 Hi,
Hilsborough, Crookes, or near meadowhal or valley centertainment.
I want a nice setting, not big and empty or 'school' like. So not TGI fridays.
I like setti collis in h'boro but there will be about 15-20 of us and its too cramped.
I dot want chinese or indian.
I would like italian or somewhere with a bit of everything.
I have considered La Vida Loca in H'boro but reviews are very hit an miss.
joanne5600 02-01-2010, 20:05 bbs on division street is a nice italian but again its like setti colli small and may get busy
Cozzer22 02-01-2010, 20:07 Pizza Volante on Glossop Road!!
HappiDayz 02-01-2010, 20:28 Town is a no go area, we have an elderly man with us who does not want to have to go anywhere on public transport or be in a busy town centre. Local restaurants are better cos we can park and wont be in a busy area.
La Civetta Middlewood Road Hillsborough, excellent and plenty of room 01142316880
Robertos in Hillsborough(Italian) just up from Co-op
medicgirl 02-01-2010, 21:45 Casanovas in Crookes is nice.

These are the same place. The food is good and the service was great last time I went - they gave me a complimentary brandy on my birthday.
BB's! it's fab :)
It is, but as Joanne has said may well be too small for the Op's requirements.
There is the room upstairs at BB's that can be booked out though for parties
HappiDayz 02-01-2010, 22:38 Casanovas in Crookes is nice.
My family went here on new years eve and it was awful.
Everything must of been preheated cos they wouldnt even do pasta!!!!! and had to wait ages for a drink cos no staff :/
HappiDayz 02-01-2010, 22:39 i think i know the one u mean on midlewood road, is it on the right hand side as if your going to the park? ive not been in tho? is it big and empty or cosy?

I might pop in and have a look :)
Nice Italian http://www.buondeli.co.uk/ in Broomhill (I know that's not on your list of places but it's near Crookes and plenty of parking).
We went for a friend's birthday meal a few weeks ago and, from not having heard of it before then, it's become one of my favourite places to eat. Big bookable back room too so should be able to cater for your party. You can take your own wine etc too if wanted. Highly recommended by the dozen of us who ate there!
I like Casanova's too but admit I've not been in at least half a year. I think judging it by how it was on New Year's Eve is a bit harsh tho.
Have a good birthday anyway!

Yes, that's the one - Roberto's and La Civetta are both on the sign.
mally350z 03-01-2010, 10:12 buon deli on glossop road , broomhill top notch

We had our Xmas do at Robertos. There was a party of 17 of us, the food was excellent, the restaurant could have been fuller with a better atmosphere but we had a good night ourselves. It was a Wednesday night we went, so maybe Thursday, Friday, Saturday, they might have been busier. Would recommend it though
Nandoo'z near cineworld
Behave! The OP wants somewhere with a bit of class, Nandos is only one step above McFilth.

Unfortunate for your family but I've been going there for years and never had a bad experience. They obviously didn't get enough staff in for NY which was a mistake but I'd still rate them highly.
Agree too about Buon Deli in Broomhill, food very good but it's pricey...
Damons - Sheffield

we go there all the time all the food is perfect....
Blue Belle 06-01-2010, 20:10 Casanovas in Crookes is nice.
I second that. The service is good...they keep an eye on your wine glass levels...although dont order the spinach and ricotta canelloni. There must be about ten bags of spinach in there. I left most of mine. TOO MUCH. The dolce latte mushrooms were delicious though.....oh and our waiter was a bit on the fit side too!!!
go to antebos (wrong spelling) its in west 1 and is big enough to accommadate large gps and the foods good and well priced (the mussles are v nice)
BOHEMIAN 07-01-2010, 16:30 hi there! maybe we not in the area you want but maybe another time.
