View Full Version : "Love you" does it get up your nose?
I have noticed just lately that after almost every phone call my kids and wife end the call with the irritatingly annoying "love you" is this the new "have a nice day"? it is so mind numbingly obvious that the words have no real meaning to either the speaker or the recipient.
No I am not having a bad day :(
melbournian 10-08-2005, 06:38 owdlad, I agree mate if somebody is nice to me they are usually trying to sell something. Next time somebody says 'love you' give them a knuckle sandwich - I will if you will.
Ya bunch of old meanies :|
What's wrong with saying that to your loved ones?
It's better than them telling you which bus stop to get off at

Sir, I am neither old nor a meanie, it is a pointless expression especially if it is thrown around willy nilly.
I think it's a stupid thing to say.
Am I expected to say it back when I obviously don't.
I have been asked "You didn't say it back" I would have thought their common sense would have told them why.
Tio love someone is a very special thing to be kept special.

*Twinkle* 10-08-2005, 07:09 I admit that me and the BF fell into the "love you" trap, especially before we started living together... (We talked on the phone every day and ended every conversation with the cliched "love you")... Now we've been living together for just over 1 year   we've taken to saying it when we really feel it. Its much more natural, and much more special!
My favourite is when he holds my face, looks into my eyes and tells me he loves me :wow:  Sends my knees- a- knocking I tell ya! Mushyfest! :D

caprice, that's sweet!
Lordy. Here in California, I wish some people would stop at saying "love you". Nothing like a bear hug and a smooch from someone you hardly know.

What time is it over there? Over here, my comment is likely to have made t'forummers bring up their breakfast lol
According to the clock on my computer, it's 12:50 am. Were about 8 hours behind you, timewise.
I was waiting for my eldest to come home. It's summer, and she was out with her friends. I can never sleep unless she's home, even if we talk on the phone, I can't relax until she walks in the door.
She finally got back, and brought two friends to spend the night. Oh well...
Of course I think that's sweet. Maybe I'm mushier than the average person? I suspect, that I am. :hihi:

sugarnspice 10-08-2005, 08:07 I don't neccessarily say "Love You" (certainly depends who it is!). I have lost a lot of loved ones over the last few years which I think has made me aware that you should say nice things to people more than we generally perhaps do. And that sometimes that conversation could be your last ever. Sounds a bit depressing I know but you never know....

Aww Sugarnspice - that has made me go all thoughtful this morning.
I didn't get to kiss my hubby this morning as we all rushed round and I wish I had now.... Think I'll send him an I love You text.

yet your allowed to use them?
I do probably say I love you far too much, but that's good, I only say it when I feel it. E.g to my boyfriend after a sensual kiss or when it feels special being together, which is most of the time. To my mum when she is feeling low, or when she is angry at me. "love you mummy" always makes her laugh. To my friends, mainly when we are drunk and having a heart to heart. Or when I say goodnight to my cousin/housemate. We always say love you. I nearly lost her in a bad accident a few years ago, now everytime I say bye to her it reminds me how lucky we all are to have her in our lives, which gives me the feeling of loving her, so I tell her. Infact I love most people in my life and when there is a moment when I really feel it, I tell them. Nothing wrong with that is there?
Yes Owdy....xxx I LOVE U TOO xxx Infact we all wuv u :hihi:
Tubthump 10-08-2005, 09:59 I love my partner, I love my mother, I love my father, I love my friends, and I don't mind telling them so. Their love is what makes me who I am, and keeps the world turning under my feet.

my girlfriend said exactly the same thing, haha
I use love you when I get off the phone to my girlfriend, or when I text her...
I don't have a problem with admitting how I feel to her, and since I don't end every phone call to everybody with it, what's the problem? I love her, shouldn't she be told it? :loopy:
