View Full Version : Who did you first see at the City Hall?
In 1969 my cousin took me to see Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich and the support band was.... the Bee Gees!
Looking at some of the oldies that the City Hall are wheeling out in the Autumn I might get to see them once more!
Can't remember the year but it was to see Chubby Brown
TrashyBook 09-08-2005, 21:16 Howard Jones in (I think) 1985.

EdnaKrabappe 10-08-2005, 17:56 a-ha in 1985
Still think Morton is gorgeous now... and still have a thing for men with a gap in their teeth...
Marillion - Script for a jester tour
lizzmobile 10-08-2005, 19:54 Saxon, 1980-something
Can't really remember, but the most recent thing at City Hall would probably a Meat Loaf and Cher tribute in November 2003.
hmm not sure but i think it was THE MIGHTY WHITESNAKE!! 1997 tour....was a crap band he put together....ah well was great to see a master showman in action.
seen them twice in last 2 years...and the new band is AMAZING! woooo!
Zebedee99 19-08-2005, 21:28 Shakin Stevens in November 1981, I was 9 and thought he was great.
I saw him again about 4 more times up until about 1987 at the same venue.
Does anyone know his real name?
Tori Amos circa 1995.
And the future Mrs Carmine was in the audience as well.

According to this (http://www.famousfolk.com/real/names-st.shtml) Shakey's real name is Michael Barrett... Originally from Cardiff.
Pauline BHG 20-08-2005, 02:00 The Human League was my first (and only) gig at The City Hall. But i've only lived here a year heheh. And again i shall see them there on December 8th - hurrah !
Anyone know who's playing the big opening night thing for the refurbished City Hall ? I'm hoping for DefLeppard, ABC, Human League and Pulp. I'm not asking TOOOO much am I ?

lomaxkinesis 20-08-2005, 02:40 You may as well add cabaret Voltaire as well, I don't think i have ever seen a band at the city hall, other than the Handsome Family in the ballroom? I took my sister to see sesame street live and some hanna babara thing a me jig as well which was ace.

One of the Nolans plays PC Sheelagh Murphy in The Bill now.. Bernie I think.
WallBuilder 21-08-2005, 23:38 I know somewhere I've still got all the tickets for the various bands I've seen in the City Hall, must of been at least a couple of dozen times. I think the first was probably Camel in the mid 70's but I may have to get the old tickets out as I'm curious to know myself exactly.
I remember one old friend of mine who collapsed at the front when Uriah heep were playing due to the crowd crushing her and she had to be hauled up on stage. I was concerned for her but she was more in awe that she'd been held by the lead guitarist.
summer1955 22-08-2005, 07:31 not remember who the first was have seen
mark bolan
gary glitter and glitter band
hot chocolate
chubby brown
know chubby was the last one i saw
pete_jim 22-08-2005, 13:02 Can't remember the year but it was Jennifer Rush, dreadful, we got free tickets from a friend who worked at the Town Hall and there was hardly a soul there.
Last act seen was Lou Reed, thought we would re-live our glory years. Stood outside watching my past arrive, mostly dressed in black a couple of sizes too small. Lou Reed and the group came on stage and launched into a really loud number. Now years ago everyone would have rushed and stood at the front of the stage but loads of us rushed to the back and sat down shielding our eardrums.
Whitesnake - Ready n Willing Tour about 1980 ish when I was about 14-15. Remember being chased by Skinheads back to Pond Street bus station
StanRobinson 22-08-2005, 19:47 Rory Gallagher - first "solo" tour following break-up of Taste, support from Jellybread (funny how your memory recalls these things!) I guess it was about 1970, I sat in the gods, ticket cost five bob. Have always had a soft spot for Rory, genuine bloke, greatly missed
scottcross 22-08-2005, 23:07 I saw Slade with support bands of Suzi Quatro and Thin Lizzy!!!
Never been to the City Hall :help:

no but i remember all the whistles that most of the crowd had give me a headache , to this day i still dont know if they had backing tapes or actually did any of the singing live
Guy Mitchell who sang "She wears Red Feathers and a Hoola Hoola Skirt" in about 1954
and next time Johnny Ray who sang "What a Nght it Was" and "Cry"
And I knew some-one who had Johnny Ray's left shoe.!
