You will find that the valuation you get will be what they would pay you to take them off your hands.

If there are some old First Editions in good condition, then you might want to consult your insurance company to see if they can suggest soeone who could do an insurance valuation, but I would think for most books it might be too expensive to do that.

This site might give you some idea of what the books are worth, or at least what dealers are selling them for.

It all depends what they are and what condition they're in. Have you got a list of the titles/authors? If so PM it to me and if I know anything about them I'll let you know what I think. Trouble is, some subjects (e.g. books full of religious sermons and so on) are virtually unshiftable.

As I have bemoaned on this site many times before, Sheffield's lack of a class second hand bookshop is very noticeable. Rare'n'Racy on Division St. is about the closest we come I think.

If you do look at Abebooks, err on the side of caution and go somewhere in the middle of the prices quoted. There are some people on there who generally ask pretty extortionate prices (indeed are famous for it!). The other thing you've got to remember is, those are the ones that they haven't managed to sell!

Ebay might give you an idea of what people are prepared to pay for a title. But bear in mind that condition is important even with rare books.

Try Bookfinder.com on the net.

Why not put the titles and condition here on the forum you may strike lucky with a price.

There are quite a few bookworms on the forum.

If you have looked on the site above, and decide you want to part with the book as it is worth a bit. Then where is the best place to go in Sheffield?
