View Full Version : How do I contact an RSPCA inspector?
chinny_chins 29-12-2009, 09:00 I had a bit of a stressful sunday rescuing 2 very neglected chinchillas and it highlighted a problem, which thanks to peak vets was solved!
I tried for about 2 hours to get hold of an rspca inspector, i called the sheffield branch who said they couldnt take the chinnys and i would have to call the inspector, i was given th number 0300 1234 999
I call ed the number and was in a queue for 30 mins then the line went dead, the same thing happened 3 more times before i instead took them up to the very helpful oncall vet at peak vets, who said he would contact the inspector directly next time he/she was in the vets, as he had already seen 3 tht day.
But it got me thinking, how am I supposed to contact the rspca if i see a neglected/mistreated animal?
And thank god for peak vets! hopefully ythose 2 little darlings are all fluffy, wel fed and happy! lets just hope we can get the rest!
Moonbird 29-12-2009, 09:18 Poor things I hope that you do get them, I have had a search and can only find the same number I'm afraid, I have to say that I have used it before and it was answered right away, I wonder if there is a fault

In my experience they are a waste of time. I had the same problem with a stray injured cat whom the RSPCA didn't give a toss about and I ended up sorting him out myself. I ended up taking him to the vets and keeping him.
You could try getting in touch here:

Good luck.
How many more are there? I have a chin cage spare if needed!
chinny_chins 29-12-2009, 16:27 not sure, i was returning my cats toy to pets at home and some guy walked in with 2 very very dirty chincihillas and asked the store manager if he would put them down! had a bit of a shout at him but they were pretty neglected. I ended up stood in the store on my mobile trying to find somewhere that would take them.Im not involved with th rest tho, much as id love to go round their and get them all! Peak vets said they would get hold of an inspector to go round and have a look as the guy admitted to having some more, said he couldnt afford rd to feed them and had been trying to get rid of them for months, although obv not very hard! if the others are in the same state the inspector should take them , their coats were completely matted and they were really skinny bless em. Just cant beleive he gave me his address after i had such a go at him! but apparently he goes into pets at home every couple of months with another pair he wants to rehome...
well there are people out here that would take them to rescue , I never turn away a case like that , although we arn't a rescue , animals are my passion and love them all.
poor tiny mites, hope to god the rest are ok, people like that should be caged and left for a month!!!!
CollieBird 29-12-2009, 18:08 We take in any creatures (except dogs )that we have facilities to house - that means we take most things, including poultry. Give me a call/text/email anytime and if it's possible, I'll take them. Mobile 07984525938 Thanks.
chinny_chins 29-12-2009, 20:03 a month definately isnt long enough! i dont have them at the mo,couldnt cos my cats would think id brought dinner home! theyre still at the vets, but call peak vets im sure they will really apriciate it, esp with more coming in, they were worried the rspca wouldnt hav espace! also ill keep ur number, just incase for next time!

do you have this guys address? we could rescue them on mass if there was enough homes and spare cages etc , I have use of 2 large cages and 1 small and can lend out as at present we are full of animals here.
CollieBird 29-12-2009, 21:23 I've got 4 empty cages so some could come here. Can't lend out these cages as they're in a permanent stack. Can we get these poor chinnies then?
Rainrescue 29-12-2009, 22:36 We have some small crates - and also a 48" crate if any use
Chins are often treated very cruelly.
I remember going to a guys house once to buy some free range chickens. He said ' come and look at this - and the place had about 20 chins in - all on their own in crates. Obviously very well cared for - but how cruel - and isolated and horrible. It broke me up. I think he kept them for grooming the hair?
Poor poor things
I took 3 singles in last year and bonded them , they now live with a customer of mine who has 10 chins living in a heated shed , all very happy and contented.
foxyflugel 30-12-2009, 00:34 Apologies for hijacking the thread guys - but I just wanted to ask - with regards to bonding and them living in pairs - do you actually have the male or female done - as with other animals to stop them breeding??
eeejay174 30-12-2009, 09:53 if i can help, will be more than happy, too, we have loads of space in our new house, i can't provide a cage sadly, but if someone can, then we take some in!!
whats happening to the chins an is the rspca dealing with it ?
