Andre' Bernard was the first Ladies Hairdressers, who were Mayfair based, to open a Salon in Sheffield.
The salon was a Perfumed Palace, we had 3 Receptionists, 14 Juniors, 11 stylists, 3 P/Wavers,A beautician,A cafe. (Mr) Howard Marks,Director, later replaced by (Mr) William Kirby, now well known Sheffield Artist. Our main competitors at that time were Marjorie Dalton's on West St: and George France on Chapel Walk.A/B's were three times more expensive than any of these salons.
Sheffield had never experienced the type of service the salon offered. I would love to hear from anyone who worked there or clients memories of it. I joined just after the salon opened in Feb; 1960 as an apprentice and left as Senior stylist in 1966 to open my own salon on Ecclesall Rd. Ahhh....Great days.
