Really, you're not supposed to feed them bread. But it's something I've always seen and probably will always see. :)

Personally if I wanted to feed the ducks (and I'm always out with the dogs, one of whom thinks it's great fun to chase them and make them fly -no intention of catching them- ) I'd probably take seed nowadays.

Terminator, can they be fed suet at this time of year? I know suet is good for the garden birds at this time of year but not sure if it's the same for ducks!

Hope the duckies get fed, I'm sure they will :) (I'm nowhere near that area and currently can't get the car out so I'm staying over this way by the look of it!)

My dad used to make a mash for them at this time of year, we had 12 white ducks for many years!

Many ppl used to make a mash up including grandfather.
Best things though for duck although some not exactly what you would want to go and feed are.earthworms, meal worms, slugs, bugs ,And yes live snails including shells lol
Hard boiled eggs yes even duck eggs and chopped up lettice and tomato

never feed bread chips crisps chocolate ppl may think they have done a good deed but infact made things worse for the bird.
On that merry xmas

You can buy suet balls ect from most garden centres / pet stores for your garden birds or make your own up out of some cheap beef.Dripping is a good feed for winter but messy in hot weather.Sunflower seeds and nuts ideal for seed eaters and or wild bird seed altough i use what canarys dont eat on bird table.By rights there shouldnt be anything like bread but lets face it most people do and nothing really with sugar or selt contents.I tend to put any left overs on bird table such as lettice apple peal ect.

Something I've found goes down really well with my customers are suet blocks - they are put out in little cages and the birdies go wild for them! (Especially in winter when they need them for extra body heat).

We have two out most of the time and I have customers who buy a lot from me, as well as seed.

You can get all different flavours suet blocks - insect, peanut, apple, berry  Spoilt birdies!

Also - on the subject of fat balls: Ideally you should have a fat ball feeder to feed them (there are different types and I know some people have had problems with some types of them) as the nets that the fat balls come in can catch the bird's feed and injure them.
