Anyone know of anywhere that can convert a VHS tape to DVD for a reasonable price? We want to do our wedding video before we move to the US - and obviously a UK video cassette won't work in a US VCR.

Thanks!

If you jave a computer with a decent sized hard drive you can do it using a digital video capture device but it takes a lot of time.

I bought one of these devices to convert a wedding video for a friend about two years ago. It cost me something like £160 to buy the device. - It's a 'Dazzle Digital Video Creator 150', and although it did a good, professional-looking job, I only used it once after that because of the time it takes.

However, there may be a quicker/cheeper way of doing it these days. Two years is a long time in computer technology!

Good Luck

I do this professionally and offer the service on an ad-hoc basis for forummers. But I'm based in Manchester so you'd have to post it to me (unless I'm over in Sheffield at the weekend).

Aldi sell a USB device that lets you plug in your video and capture the signal and record it straight to DVD. It only costs £30 and is very very similar to the Belkin Videobus (now called something like DVD creator) that Argos sell for £70.

Hmmm... all very interesting and useful, but what I really wanted was an actual shop where I can take my video cassette to, give them some money, and then a few hours later I get a DVD back with it all transferred. I WOULD do it all myself, but I don't actually own a VCR at the moment - the only thing I have on tape is my wedding - and as I'm leaving the countryto live in the USA in 2 weeks, I don't really want to go out and buy one.

Does anyone know of a shop in Sheffield that does this or, alchresearch, how much do you charge?

If it's just a straightforward copy to DVD without any titles or editing required, no charge. Just send me the tape, blank DVD and SAE (I'm not in Sheffield all the time you see).
