My 18 month old Advent 6917 laptop is being a right plonker lately.
Before the charger is plugged in, the battery shows half full, but when i stick the charger in, the light on the front goes pretty much straight to green as if to say it is fully charged and the icon in my tray shows the plug sign (so it does recognize it is plugged in) but the battery graphic should display the battery level increasing all the time, but it doesn't anymore...
To conclude... it thinks it is fully charged, therefore stops trying to charge the battery (does that sound possible??), leaving me with only half a battery charged laptop.
Any ideas? Do you think i need a new battery or could the problem be more complicated?
Please Help :)

Forgot to mention... sometimes it gets the mardys on and the laptop cuts out when i take the charger out, which makes me think it could be the battery connection
could be battery memory effect
Memory effect, also known as lazy battery effect or battery memory, is an effect observed in nickel cadmium rechargeable batteries that causes them to hold less charge. It describes one very specific situation in which certain NiCd batteries gradually lose their maximum energy capacity if they are repeatedly recharged after being only partially discharged. The battery appears to "remember" the smaller capacity.
maybe time for a new battery or laptop advents not a great brand

That is very true - the new Lithium breed (Li-Ion) don't have the memory problem but they do have a rotting problem - discovered an article on the net some time ago which informed readers that Li-Ion batteries are rotting from the date of manufacture so never buy a spare like you could do with Lithium ones. Also you should never (apparently) have them charged above 85% or go below 35% - if I can find the link will post later.

Couldn't find the original article - sure I saved it somewhere but this is an interesting read:
