Some of you may also find the following page a good read, particularly those who don't have a clue how to drive in real snow, I'm talking about those who have being driving since 1985, before 1985, this is when we had real snow!!!
Driving Advice: http://www.sy-transport.co.uk/traffic/winter_driving.htm
Now starting to snow real heavy here in south Rotherham and looking at the recent traffic cameras, it also is in most parts of SY. Ice will also be a major factor in the early hours of tomorrow morning.
Stay Safe!!! Oh and have a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year... :)
Padster89 23-12-2009, 19:00 Thats a very interesting collection of information there Michael N.Thanks for that very useful.
Michael_N 23-12-2009, 20:06 Not a problem. Anyone took a look at the Traffic Cameras over the last 5 minutes. Most roads are now covered in snow. Must be too much hard work for the gritters to handle, including the M1.
Also a number of bus services are now disrupted due to the snow.
Michael_N 23-12-2009, 20:40 Bus Situation Update.
All First South Yorkshire services in Sheffield have being suspended, along with all Sheffield Community Transport and Veolia Transport services.
Very useful links Micheal N. My Dad and partner are currently travelling up from London and I have been able to give them updates of the traffic/snow situation, Thanks :)
i would think most tm are suspended too its as bad as sunday night and most was suspended then i was called in off the road sunday
cgksheff 23-12-2009, 21:46 Can you add on the Highways agency, AA & RAC webpages as well?
moondust 23-12-2009, 22:03 Very useful post Michael N. Thanks very much!
Have a very merry christmas!
Sketty24 23-12-2009, 22:13 When it says main roads only, how do you determine what routes are on main roads and what aren't? The bus I normally catch in Doncaster goes on dual carriageways then past the stadium, is that road a main one or not?

I'd say a main road were any of the "A" or "B" roads. The others with no assigned numbers, will be classed as minor roads, though I could be wrong here.
stacey22 23-12-2009, 22:17 does anyone think it will be ok to travel xmas day

No .. No .. No.. Yes!
From where to where?
Current forecasts suggest that local movement will be OK.
(based on the sales of brussel sprouts)

However, there are no bus stops on a dual carriageway, so basically my bus would never stop. :hihi:
S8 Blade 23-12-2009, 22:46 The road traffic cameras do make the roads look pretty clear now
Michael_N 24-12-2009, 12:02 Everything seems to now be getting back to normal as it was yesterday afternoon, with most roads now being cleared and most public transport now operating fully once again. Of course there will still be some disruption, but at least from Boxing Day, the weather starts to get mild again.

It looks like this thread may be required again, due to heavy snowfall being forcasted and already covering most parts of Sheffield at the moment.
