can anyone recommend any interesting spooky/haunted walks i could do over the xmas holiday? last year we headed up to the plane wreck at bleaklow and that was very interesting, we also bought a book of ghost walks in derbyshire and we did one of those but i can't remember where it was exactly off the top of my head! my memory is poor :loopy:

i'm not necessarily talking about large historic places like roach abbey, it could just be a walk through a "haunted" forest or walking past an old abandoned industrial building or hospital, or through an old churchyard, or something similar, you get the idea! basically, something with a bit of history and an interesting story

cheers

p.s.
i've headed up to the nine ladies stone circle before as well

Have you been and looked for the Stocksbridge Bypass ghost? There are plenty of walks up around Deepcar/Wharncliffe and even if you don't see the Ghost you can visit the Wharncliffe Dragon's cave.

I only know bits and pieces concerning the ghost - said to be a mysterious monk who started haunting when the bypass was first built. There are a number of threads on the forum about it.

The dragon really existed, but like most myths it was based on reality rather than supernatural. The "dragon" was the local landowner who terrorised his tenants until being fought and killed by a brave hero (taken to court by a neighbour actually). There are songs written about the dragon and I'm sure google will provide.

I think most people who have seen the Stocksbridge By-Pass Ghost have seen it from their car; so unless the OP fancies jaywalking, that might option be out of the question!

There's always a walk through Millers Dale if you fancy it called 'Ghosts of Millers Dale'. We've been on this walk in here a couple of times, and I've got to say that as a total non-believer, even I felt the atmosphere at Litton Mill, which apparently is there because of the way children who worked in the mill were treated in the early 19th century. People have apparently seen childrens faces at the windows from that period!

Hi, have you walked around the 'underwater villages' of Ashopton and Derwent? Interesting rather than spooky but a lovely area to walk around -some routes are available on the Peak District main web site, search for 'lost villages walk' if you're interested. Happy walking!
