View Full Version : Tomato ketchup: is it right..? the_rudeboy 09-08-2005, 08:12 ......to have tomato ketchup on a Sunday roast? Are there any odd meal/condiment combinations that you partake of? JoeP 09-08-2005, 08:13 Only if one is a blackguard and a scoundrel with no class. :) I have recently taken a fancy to that European abomination of mayonaise on chips, however.... nick2 09-08-2005, 08:15 Originally posted by JoeP I have recently taken a fancy to that European abomination of mayonaise on chips, however.... I think that is the national dish of Holland, it's all you can get in Amsterdam from take-aways Fareast 09-08-2005, 08:35 I'm living in China at the moment and usually cook , "Western " type food so I know what I'm eating. However , every now and then , for a change I try something different I've never tried before. I look at things in a shop and point -----and that's it ! So , often I've ended up eating stuff that obviously never ought to be eaten together but I 've no idea what either of them are ! Phanerothyme 09-08-2005, 08:37 Originally posted by nick2 I think that is the national dish of Holland, it's all you can get in Amsterdam from take-aways Belgian I reckon. Belgians also produce the best chips in the world, and the best beer. Moule Frites & a Bottle of Orval, bliss. willman 09-08-2005, 08:38 my nephew insisted on ketchup on mashed potatos when younger, this was his warped method of preventing me from eating them 'cos i prefer to taste my food & not the condiments. Lucky_13 09-08-2005, 14:15 ketchup is good but hendersons relish is much much better. mmmmmmmmm CherryNicole 09-08-2005, 14:51 Originally posted by rudeboy ......to have tomato ketchup on a Sunday roast? Can I class chocolate spread as a condiment?? I like it on chips or satay chicken mmmm bertie749 09-08-2005, 14:56 Mint sauce on turkey or chicken for me .... mmmmmm feargal 09-08-2005, 14:56 Originally posted by CherryNicole My friend likes tomato ketchup on peas, but I just think it ruins them! This is only acceptable for sticking them together so they don't roll off the plate! :D cgksheff 09-08-2005, 14:58 I eat my peas with honey! I've done it all my life. It may sound rather funny, but it keeps them on the knife!:D Bully_Beef 09-08-2005, 14:58 I think eating cheese at breakfast time is one of the most dispicable depths to which mankind can stoop. feargal 09-08-2005, 15:03 What, worse than peanut butter. With jam? That's the devils work. :( timo 09-08-2005, 15:14 Bully Beef, I agree with you re the consumption of cheese at breakfast. I was struck with horror recently at breakfast in Amsterdam, when cold ham and cheese [Gouda] was served. Have these Dutch vulgarians never heard of Poptarts? Fareast 09-08-2005, 15:32 Oh , I don't know , cheese sounds a lot better for breakfast than fried pig , fried hen droppings , fried fungus ..... and perhaps most disgusting of all ......meusli..... Bully_Beef 09-08-2005, 15:39 Originally posted by Fareast Oh , I don't know , cheese sounds a lot better for breakfast than fried pig , fried hen droppings , fried fungus ..... and perhaps most disgusting of all ......meusli..... What all of them sound worse than "congealed fermented secretions from a cow"? ;) *Twinkle* 09-08-2005, 15:42 Eww! These sound disgusting! The oddest thing I do is put light mayonnaise on chips... But I'm trying to cut down on both, so thats my weirdness over lol! CherryNicole 09-08-2005, 17:29 Originally posted by Bully_Beef I think eating cheese at breakfast time is one of the most dispicable depths to which mankind can stoop. Cheese toasties are the only thing my sister will eat for breakfast :loopy: DragonofAna 09-08-2005, 17:33 Anything wrong with eating chocolate for breakfast? Chocolate sauce on chips saves on desert - unless its chocolate sauce on ice cream. In fact - is there anything at all you cannot have chocolate with? Hmmm! Pangs of hunger ;) Dragon youwhatref 09-08-2005, 17:49 Originally posted by CherryNicole Cheese toasties are the only thing my sister will eat for breakfast :loopy: If you go to MacD's then you end up with cheese on your Muffins! I used to have ketchup on my Sunday Dinners as a kid until my Grandma caught me doing it at her house for the first time. I was scutched and had the threat of my dinner removed from me! :D Mathom 09-08-2005, 17:54 mmmm, condiments... I like mint sauce butties, and mustard on toast is good too. I can't eat non-mushy peas politely so I have to mash them into other food, and sauce is always a good option. How the hell do people manage to balance peas on the back of their fork? How does it work? I can't do it, I end up with one pea. :( Soy sauce on chips is good, too. the_rudeboy 09-08-2005, 19:13 In fact - is there anything at all you cannot have chocolate with? Yes, chocolate and beer do not mix well....!! *Twinkle* 09-08-2005, 19:18 Ooo I forgot to add, I love crisps and chocolate at the same time lol! Greybeard 09-08-2005, 19:51 Originally posted by Bully_Beef I think eating cheese at breakfast time is one of the most dispicable depths to which mankind can stoop. Depends on what time you breakfast ;) If I'm really late I'll sometimes start the day with a couple of rounds of cheese on toast topped with crispy bacon. As for tomato sauce, - only ever with fish. Sunday lunch deserves nothing other than properly made gravy and perhaps mint sauce with lamb and apple sauce with pork. Greybeard 09-08-2005, 20:05 Originally posted by Fareast Oh , I don't know , cheese sounds a lot better for breakfast than fried pig , fried hen droppings , fried fungus ..... and perhaps most disgusting of all ......meusli..... Fried muesli, - that is weird weird. Or perhaps a Chinese dish ? :D Raw muesli is my favourite breakfast, and is really good for you because it is all raw. Cooking destroys a lot of the goodness, especially the essential fatty acids, in everything we eat . pixy 09-08-2005, 20:32 I used to have a boyfriend that ate cottage cheese and frankfurter sandwiches! I can't imagine a more revolting combination. And I actually tried eating one once when we went for a walk in the countryside and he didn't bring anything else to eat. It was every bit as disgusting as you can imagine!! ReginaldD 09-08-2005, 22:39 I once made bread like tabasco style, as i put put tabasco in when i made it, it was for my GCSE food project it was quite nice i'll have to make it again soon. Cake 09-08-2005, 23:11 I used to work with a woman who ate cottage cheese and banana on ryvita :gag: Hels 09-08-2005, 23:21 I used to have brown sauce sarnies as a kid (couldn't afford the chips) :hihi: Shiesh 09-08-2005, 23:39 I loved tomato sauce as a kid...but now I prefer mayonnaise or nothing!! My weirdest food combination is tuna and cornflake sandwiches...as mentioned in this (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=40713) thread along with some other strange food combinations! :) Splodge_CRB 10-08-2005, 00:39 Ohhhhh! Salad cream sarnies! I was addicted to fried eggs on toast with HP Curry sauce on, try it....it's to die for ;) I have to dine off the memories these days, I'm on a wheat free, taste free, fun free diet...:gag: peterdo 10-08-2005, 02:42 My son had weet bix and milk for breakfast with parmasan cheese sprinkled on top. Just the thought made me want to throw up.:loopy: Robbie Loving 10-08-2005, 08:42 well mayonaire always goes down a treat. my latest invention is the bacon, egg, tomato, cheese and mayo sandwich :D think my strangest was cornflakes and mayo mmmmmmmmmm and mayo on pasta and mayo on toast IN FACT MAYO ON ITS OWN WOO HOO samc 10-08-2005, 08:51 Originally posted by Splodge_CRB Ohhhhh! Salad cream sarnies! Oohhh yes !! We used to have golden syrup sarnies too but my mother never knew.. When we were kids we hated swede and sprouts but had to eat up our veggies so the deal was we could have a dab of tomato sauce on it to disguise the taste. Worked. Splodge_CRB 10-08-2005, 09:42 Aaargh! this thread is killing me! You don't know what I'd give for a golden syrup sarnie..... *well..anything other than being violently ill for the rest of the week! :gag: I'm even allergic to tomato sauce now (instant migraine from vinegar) It used to be my secret ingredient in chilli too, get a right good dollop in there! Didn't half disguise the fact I can't cook ;) I used to share a house with the ketchup kid, he would put it on literally everything. I told him if I ever saw him putting it on tomato soup I'd drown him in it...... Sure enough there came a day when he sat down with a bowl of steaming tomato soup....I hovered nearby pretending not to show any interest.....I know...I know...I should have drowned him! He put salad cream in it..... the_rudeboy 10-08-2005, 11:08 My weirdest food combination is tuna and cornflake sandwiches That sounds....errr...revolting. I've always thought you might be a little strange......lol Cheese & raspberry jam sarnis....now ya talkin!! |
