It's not very often I get back up to Middlesbrough, my native homeland, but at the weekend it was a mates 40th birthday party!

As a direct result of this (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21440&perpage=15&highlight=parmesan&pagenumber=3) thread I decided to photograph my 'supper' the Teesside Delicacy...'THE PARMO '

My Parmo, pictured Linthorpe Road at 3am BST 07/08/05 (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y144/shieshuk/DSC00967.jpg)

It was delicious...I only wish someone would start doing them in Sheffield...I miss them so much...along with Newboulds pork pies and Pacitto's lemon tops!!

I have also included photo's of the birthday boys very own 'dance troop'...THE VILLAGE PEOPLE aka my Hubby and pals!!

I work up that way quite a lot, i must try the Parmo next time.
we usally lodge in Redcar and use the local chippy/kebab places but i cant say i've ever seen it on the menu.
A bit further up the road where i was born (South Shields) we have the Savaloy sandwich a nice smoked savaloy with pease pudding and stuffing in a stottie.

Looks like you had a good party Sheish!

The YMCA is still as popular as ever I see. Thought I recognised myself in your photo links as the guy in the leather jacket, muir cap and sunglasses. Definitely a strong look-a-like, but then I noticed his tummy (or should I say, the absence of a large tummy! :heyhey:).

Linthorpe Road eh? Brings back memories. Glad you enjoyed yourself.

It has been a long time since I went to Middlesbrough and it before my takeway eating days - please explain what the 'parmo' is ? It looks like a pile of grated cheddar grilled with all the fat oozing about....

And what's the dip in the tub? Is it a garlic one? Yummy.

....it is either a chicken or pork escallope in breadcrumbs covered in bechamel sauce (like a lasagne topping) and cheese !!! Yum Yum

In Teesside they are about a 9'' inch pizza size and are generally served in a pizza box with a separate polystyrene box loaded with Chips and Salad and choice of sauce (garlic or chilli)....at takeaways they are generally about £5-6 but easily serve 2....

desperate times/desperate measures...I don't get up to Middlesbrough enough to satisfy my desire for 'Gods Food' ...I have tried preparing the dish myself but it was hopeless...maybe someone in Sheffield will sell it under Special Licence signed and agreed by Boro Ex-Pats in South Yorks!!
