Hi.

My father in law wants a laptop (no idea why)

Spend no more than £350 (but im sure you guys can find him one a lot cheaper than that)

He doesnt mind ordering one off line but wants it to be from a company he has heard from like currys or something.

I have found the following:

Hi HappiDayz,

The first thing to establish is:

1. What is it going to be used for?

2. Does he have any visual impairment? (Acer and Toshiba tend to have glass screens and could affect viewing effectively - Toshiba only offer a non-glare option from their website.

3. Is he wanting portability? - If so look at how long the battery is going to last.

4. Will the unit be plugged in all the time and where will the cable go to? (Potential tripping hazard - I do like the Apple Macs on this and I know they would be above budget, but I do like their 'mag' connector so that if it gets pulled the wire just slips off the laptop and hopefully neither tripper or laptop get injured!)

5. Is he wanting to stay in touch? Make sure it has a webcam - and if not on a broadband package now he will need one - what's available in his area?

6. Has he any experience of computers or been able to access one to see how easy they are to use?

All things to consider before plunging in.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
