I'll try posting this on the Football message site. If nobody is old enough to remember this game, I'll try re-posting on the Expats and History one.

Date: Sat Sep 16 1961. Blades v Owls at Bramall Lane.

Result: Blades 1-0.

I went to this game but I don't remember much about it. Does anyone else? Who scored and when? What were the team line ups? It's for a writing project I'm doing. Thanks.

There were 38,497 at the game.
I was one of them but remember nothing about it.
I'll try to find out more for you.

Hi Rock, hope you're ticketyboo?
Its all coming back to me now, I think Derek (Doc) Pace scored the goal.
Wednesday hit the woodwork 15 times, United were very, very lucky.
The sharp intakes of breath from brickin it Blades sucked the ball away from Uniteds goal, and at the end of the game, the United players bowed at the feet of the superior Wednesday side. :hihi:

For the OP though, I think it [B]was/B] Derk Pace who scored, but I can't find confirmation of this anywhere.

it was the season 61-62...united also won at hillsborough 2-1 with pace scoring both united's goals...wednesday were also playing in the fairs cup before getting beat by barcelona...and i think both teams had good cup runs

I have a vague recollection the goal in that game came very late on, possibly even in injury time ???

I went to some games around then, but wasn't allowed to go to that one , because :-
"Tha'rt too young, and won't be able to see 'owt !"

I was at the 2-2 the following season though, a cracking game.

didn't write that bit mate because i wasn't there....but can remember night at lane in 75....on your kop...mates were blades...funny seeing your pals one side of the divide then going at it hell for leather....then a few hours later your all boozing together in the daizy...why did we do it.....happy days

I was at that game with Andrew Hobson, him and his brother Dennis the boxing promoter tried to buy into wednesday.
He was with his girfriend and there was a line dividing the Blades and owls on the kop but at the back everyone were mixing and chatting away at the snack bars.

This web site gives the score but not the scorer. I forget where I got the attendance from. But it must have been packed. Over 38K in what was then a 3-sided stadium.
