(R) = Route change (T) = Timetable Change

School services have been re-tendered and a number of services have changed operator. Schools were informed before closing for summer holidays.
It looks like First are responding to Changes by Terrier and Powells on routes 25/60/82
If I find any more I will amend this thread.
FFS!
The 82 is already one of the worst services in Sheffield! And they're altering the f***ing timetable?!
WTF?! :loopy:
First suck...
silverknight 08-08-2005, 22:11 My guess Rick is that with Terrier withdrawing the 74A on the City to Millhouses section of route from 1st August, Powells see more income by using the buses it now has spare from its withdrawn 97a service to run extra 82's over this section. So First will adjust its times to keep in front of Powells.also I guess its much the same with Terrier now serving Fulwood with its 120 service means First adjust the 60 to compete.
This is purely guess work by me!
Am interested to see the changes to 25A.
The timetable change Terrier made to the 25 added extra time to the timetable to make it more robust and reliable, however it had the annoying effect of retiming Bradway bound buses to leave about 10 mins later, resulting in a 20 minute wait then the 25 and 25A leaving together, rather than the 2 services being evenly spaced 10 minutes apart.
Don't suppose they are going to run 25A later in the evening? The 53 is terrible in the sense that it is really slow and goes to the Interchange rather than town proper.
Have you seen the local news on the box that South Yorkshire councils are concerned over the loss of passangers that they are down to a third of what they were before the present idea that First had the monopoly. Therefore they are about to come up with an alternative.
First are probably wondering why. Yes it stopped being a public service years ago.
Dave h-j 09-08-2005, 08:01 I must admit that Sheffield has one of the worst bus services I have ever seen...
Went to get a bus home yesterday the sheffield interchange, only to find that the 265 seems to stop after 5pm?? Looked on the web site (the oh so useful sypte.co.uk :| ) and it couldn;t find any timetable info for the 265..
I live in up in the Warren area of chapeltown, so the 265 and X30 are the only quick buses I can get into Sheffield. The only oterh alternative is to walk 20-25 mins and get one in Chapeltown... But lets face it, if you've walked that far, you may as well get a train and get there quicker..
So, I've switched to the train. They seem much more reliable now (although there are 1/3rd less services than this time last year :( ), but at least you get a bit of warning before they change the times. Plus teh fare has only rised by 10p in the last 5 years or so, so it's easier to keep track of..
So, I can quite understand the reduction in pasenger numbers, and it's entirely the fault of the bus companies and the sypte. There is a complete lack of information about buses, unless you visit there shop and pick up an out of date timetable. The people working there generally don't have a clue and the bus companies change the routes/fares on a whim - with scant regard for those that use the services..
Sheffield as a city is spread out, it's not as compact as Edinburgh or Newcastle, so needs to have a bus network to match. Buses (and the car) are the only viable ways to reach the city from more further flung parts of the city (I'll ignore the tram, as it only overs a small proportion of the city). They realy need to look lomng and hard at the transport situation if they want Sheffield to be successful as a city...
Only the Stagecoach journeys on 265 operate now, the Barnsley & District ones have been withdrawn, meaning this route only operates early morning and late evening.
This service has been replaced by new Yorkshire Terrier route 72X, which is basically the 72 extended to Barnsley.

You actually see so many busses now with no-one on them, the entire city must be getting fitter as we all walk to the nearest tramstop or for the entire journey instead.
Yeah because First need to lose the contract for running the City's bus services into the ground like they do... FFS! And the flippin' Council wonders why people prefer to take their cars in Town :loopy:
HendryVIII 09-08-2005, 14:29 What is happening to the 69?
slimsid2000 09-08-2005, 14:49 I don't think First (or any bus company) have a contract with the council as such. Bus companies run buses on routes where they think it profitable to do so.
The PTE do tender services for unprofitable routes/times and First have some of these contracts.

Radio Four Tonight (Aug9th)8pm repeated on Sunday (14th Aug)at 5pm
An investigation into the performance of Britian's bus companies in which Alan Whitehouse uncovers poor reliability, safety failings and a regulatory system that is struggling to cope.So what are we getting for the millions of pounds of public money funnelled into the bus industry each year.
Should be an interesting programme

This is quite true. First have not been awarded a contract to operate in this area. They bought up Mainline as they thought it would be a profitable area to operate in. They only operate services that will make a profit, unless they have one of the tendered service contracts from PTE, which they only take on because they get heavily subsidised for running what would otherwise be an unprofitable route. Take the number 8 for instance, the contract for First to run this service recently expired so they immediately cut it completely.
Sheffield used to have one of the best bus systems in the country. Of all the cities I have lived in it still rates as relatively good (in Cambridge for instance, you rarely see a bus after 7pm or on Sundays; Leeds wasn't great when I lived their either), but this is being very quickly eroded by First and it is a damn shame.
