Hi
I have just bought a cable that goes from the earphone socket on my ipod nano to my home stereo.
It work fine, but..............I have to have the volume on my ipod on full or the volume from the stereo (even on full) is not loud at all, in fact it is really quiet.
Will having the volume on full all the time on my ipod do it any harm?
The stereo is INCREDIBLY loud if I put the ipod on full and the stereo on full, but even if the ipod is on half volume and the stereo is on full it is really quiet.
Thanks
Sarah

nope, ipods are designed to detect if its a cable (like what you have, called Line Out) or earphones that are plugged in.

if its in 'Line Out mode' the volume should be on full..

Fantastic!
Thank you.
I couldn't decide whether to get a docking station or just use my home stereo and decided on using the home stereo. When I realised I had to have the volume on full I thought I might have made the wrong decision.
Thanks again

It's said (though I can't recall my source) that you'll get a better quality audio signal via the dock connector. Whether you'll be able to tell, however, depends on the quality of the encoding of the material and what you connect it to.

Hi
A cable from the dock connector to my stereo is what I was looking for originally but I can't find anyone that sells them. If anyone knows anywhere please let me know!

Buy a dock (ideally Apple's "Universal") and connect it to your hi-fi via the "Line Out" port on the back of that. You could also use that to charge the iPod via the cable you have and a suitable wall plug adaptor - though you won't be able to play music and charge at the same time.

I have this for my second system and it does the job fine, and charges too.
