We have just become the owner of a new Sky+ box from the nice people at Sky.
However the box has a habit of freezing and we have to turn it off, leave it off for 5 mins then turn it back on again for it to work. This can be 2-3 times a day.
Not only that but when it is on and working and we set it to record it has a problem with recording part of the feature, failing to record at all or the movie or progamme skipping when playing back.
Now this has been reported to Sky and an engineer is coming out tomorrow to replace the box, but I wanted to know if any other forummers had the same problems with their sky+ box?
I don't have a Sky+ box DB but my normal Sky box has recently started playing up. It gets stuck on one channel and will not respond to any of the buttons or remote control. Unplugging is the only way to get it to work properly again.
Just so happens my Sky protection plan is up for renewal :suspect:

Is it a Thompson by any chance?

For people with contracts tell them you want to cancel as the box is broken and they sometimes offer you a free replacement. May take a bit of persuading.
had exactly the same probs when i got mine.usuallu hd freezes & they give u another box as it will b guaranteed at the mo.
climate affects it just a sbad as normal, however upgrades to system can freeze the sytstem.
u can hear the hd hum when they r upgrading even when tv is trned off.
be patient.
Mine hasn't been connected to a telephone line for about 3 years. Can that cause problems?

Nope, but if you're a Sky tech suport drone then you will believe it causes your world to end.

It's not just Sky, Telewest cable ones lock up as well.
What is it with the quality of these boxes? Analogue Sky and cable never used to lock up.

No it's a Pace model which is why I'm confused since Pace are normally top notch.
Try doing a system reset on the sky+ box.
Mine used to do it regularly until I looked into it on the net and found out how to do a harddrive format and a manual system update.
It works much better now.
Look into the secret engineers menu, do a google search for how to get to it.
a lot of the freezes r upgrades to the software in the box, just like updating windows. however some if the stuff is too technical fo rthe box.
we had 3 boxes in fairly quick succession.
have a chat with the engineer when he comes out they're usually ok.
