View Full Version : Football Pitches in Sheffield

Good afternoon All,

I represent the official supporters team of Sheffield United (Inter Blades). We have a fixture against Preston on Sat 20th Aug and we're searching for a suitable venue.

Our normal home pitch is the Sheffield United Cricket Club on Bawtry Road, but incredibly they're allowing Yorkshire league cricket to take place on it during the first few weeks of the football season ;-). We would prefer to have a grass pitch (while the weather's still reasonable) for the first few games, so... are any of you aware of a decent grass pitch that may possibly be available on a Saturday morning, that is within 10-15 minutes of Bramall Lane and has parking/changing facilities.

Having spoken to the Sheffield council, they have said we can have the Concorde Sports centre (up near Meadowhall?) at a decent price, but I hear that the grass pitch(es) aren't up to much, can anyone confirm that?

cheers,

Danny B.

At this time of year they are probably ok, but as it's recreation land they are open to everyone.

I'd suggest the SCC ground near Olive Grove, maybe Davy Sport Club, Universtity playing fileds (some great pitches) on Warminster Road or there's the Meadowhall Sport Ground just off Bawtry road.

Hope this helps

Seeing as you get told off for starting new threads i thought i'd use this 1 to get a quiet life lol.
Why are the pitches so bad in Sheffield?
How have the council got the cheek to charge the money they do when they don't even maintain them to a reasonable standard?

The concord pitches are a disgrace, you should be allowed to play for free on those pitches lol.

if thats the one where they were doing the groundworks/drainage thing and had half the grass up then yeh it is done...i maybe wrong but ive never seen it in use this season and its still in bad shape and looks shocking for drainage. might be worth to keep looking for another pitch while theres time....what pitch you using now?

Yeah we need to check, they have been letting it grow back all season so its not been touched. I need to check it will be done properly by start of next season where they have dug it up though.

Probably best to avoid Concord however, if you do need it, then the ones at the bottom of the park are ok, think pitch number 22 and 21 I think they are. Flattest ones on there but Im told they suffer in winter being at the bottom of the park meaning all water flows that way.

Most pitches are bad though in winter anyway but concord is cheapest option. Arbourthorne is normally free but gets vandalised a bit and seems much more open to elements.

Cant you use Shirecliffe or somewhere like that? Depends if you want it all season or just start of season really. If just start, have to wait to see what pitches they have free after allocation is done around April time.

Think it was Arbourthorne where i played a few years back, theres a pub near the 2 pitches :help:
One pitch had the centre circle totally covered in car parts that were left after a car was burned :hihi::hihi: Lucky we were on the other pitch but cant understand why people do that

Seen the Owls on all those 25. Fewest visits were Darlington, and definately Bristol Rovers, I think only chance I had was when we were banned about'81. (3-3, both our fullbacks scored Blackhall & Grant)

didn't realise so many had flitted.
