View Full Version : Will Sheffield Wednesday get Relegated?
Do you think Sheffield Wednesday will get relegated this season? They are currently rock bottom of Division one. What do you think will happen if they do get relegated. They are in millions of debt and facing Division 2 Football. If things keep on getting worse they could end up been forced to sell the football ground. What do you think can be done to turn things around?
I Personally can't see them beating the drop this season. I think it's one of the worst sides I have seen at Hillsborough.

YE!
They will probably come straight back up though, I cant belive I said that being a Blade.
The finances are more of a problem, the problem stems from when they had all the foreigners on high wages. Most of them have gone now, they are likely to go into recivership and someone will have to bail them out.

I am not so sure they will come back up. I mean the teams at the bottom of Division 1, Brighton, Stoke, Grimsby and Sheff Wed are among the worst I have ever known.
Michael_W 23-03-2003, 23:13 Not looking too good down at S6, yesterday's result (at Millwall) really put's them favourites for the drop, I hope Turner and the lads pull off the miracle that might see them survive though !
Come on Wednesday !
Tony Cocking 25-03-2003, 12:22  You might be right i have watch the owls for years when they was in the old 3rd division and again the players that they have could not get in my Saturday team i just feel so sorry for them we need some luck and a big backer with plenty of money to buy the right players the managers have not help .
T.C
Michael_W 25-03-2003, 15:01 I followed the Owls for many years and remember the old Third Division days, Wednesday came very close to being relegated to the Fourth Division - beating Southend 2 - 1 at Hillsborough last match of the 75/76 season to send them down instead !
It took a few seasons to turn things round back then, I don't think the club can afford to repeat that with it's current financial plight !
Tony Cocking 27-03-2003, 10:22 I remember that match with southend i was biting my finger nails but think of all the good players that have gone out of Hillsboro kovancic warhurst hursty wilson palmer bright waddle sheridan pearson there is nobody like that at Hillsboro now i use to watch them home/away but i just cant afford to watch them now but hopefully things will change for the better not this season but lets start rebuilding for next get the rubbish out
Thanks Tony
Michael_W 27-03-2003, 20:55 I agree Tony, I too followed them for many years home and away, but due to the declining quality of football and the cost stopped going. I hope Turner can turn things round because the loyal Owls fans deserve better.
the owls aren't down yet but it does now look more than likely though it is hard to face.
if the owls are relegated and the blades promoted it will be interesting to see who gets the bigger gates.
if united struggle in the premiership and wednesday are going for promotion in division two.
Michael_W 04-04-2003, 22:13 The attendance arguments are rife again at the moment, the Blades fans can never accept the fact that Wednesday are the best supported club in the city !
Come on Wednesday !
More bad news Brighton have three more points tonight. It just gets worse.
United have 30,000 plus tickets for the semi.I just wonder if they can sell them all.
Tony Cocking 06-04-2003, 07:37 :D Lets be honest when the Owls Played the other side which we dont talk about at the semi they was getting gates of 12000 + then they turn up with 40000+ how loyal are the other side to there club a lot coming out of the woodwork dont you agree anyway they will not go up they are not good enough T.C.
Of course, this link will tell you all about it
http://www.rufctrust.co.uk/bigrich/blistwebsite/index.htm
This url is out of date now, it was showing the iraq information minster telling the world that Sheffield Wednesday was indeed at the top of the divison 1.
I was allmost resigned to the owls going down, then what a result at Portsmouth 2.1 to the blue and white wizards it's game on again.
We spoilt the Pompey party.
Well done to Chris and the lads! :)
I expected Wednesday to start winning when it was too late and they were allready relegated, but now who knows?Typical Wednesday to keep us all hanging on till the last game of the season.
As a confirmed Wednesdayite can i honestly wish united all the best for tomorrow,i`m going to tip them to win 2-0,you heard it here first. Not intended to be the kiss of death.
YES and Danny Wilson should be sent to Hell for what he did.
Internetowl 18-04-2003, 20:16 Tomorrow could really go a long way to deciding it I think. We need to win!
Four games left.
Grimsby at Home. The only team currently below us in the League.
Brighton away. As big a game as the Grimsby match will be, I think this one will be the crunch match, the decider.
Burnley away. Burnley have mid table stability. The old 'nothing to play for' scenario. Don't get me wrong, they definitely won't roll over and give us the points, but after the great result against Portsmouth, Wednesday have proved that anyone is beatable on the day.
Walsall at Home. It might come down to the entire season resting on this match. Walsall may well have been sucked into the relegation 'dogfight' themselves by this point. Either way another tough game.
So, with 2 of the relegation contenders to face, Wednesdays fate rests entirely in their own hands.
Can they survive?
I really hope so, whats more I really do think that the lads will do us proud and keep us in Division one.
UP THE OWLS.
Thats the spirit hixxy let's all keep positive there's hope yet.
Any owls fans not quite sure weather to go to the match tommorow COME ON get down there and give Chris and the lads your backing they don't come any more important than this!
I`m sure most Wednesday fans will have had a look at the remaining fixtures of the bottom clubs. It looks to me like Stoke should be doomed. They have to play Leicester,Wimbledon and i think C.Palace and Reading, whilst the other three play each other and someone therefore, must pick up points.Given that Stoke have to stay above all three i would think they are certs for the drop.If Wednesday can beat Grimsby there must be real hope.Keep everything crossed.
Top Blade-FTP 19-04-2003, 19:40 No score draw - oh well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No cup final oh well!!!!!!!!!
Top Blade-FTP 20-04-2003, 22:34 Who's going down - oh well!!!
Michael_W 21-04-2003, 20:21 Mmmm.... anyway lads, unfortunately the Owls have gone down so let the Blades fans have their moment, it may yet be the highlight of their 'great' season !!
Come on Wednesday - still Sheffields best supported club !
So, Wednesday are relegated. It hasn't been the best of days at work today, being a Wednesdayite, but what annoys me most isn't the Sheff Utd fans, its the Rotherham supporters. I can take abuse from United fans because I've been handing it out to them for the last 20 years or so, and it seems that finally, there time has come to give me a bit back. What goes around comes around. But when we were in the Premiership and contesting 2 cup finals, where were Rotherham? Thats right, they were nowhere. I didn't say a word to the Rotherham fans back then, but it seems now that they have sided with the blades against us. Jealousy. This is the only reason I can think of for their actions. The bottom line is this - Sheffield Wednesday are at the lowest point I can ever remember, but at Hillsborough on Saturday against Grimsby there were 26,000 fans. Rotherham are at the highest position they have EVER been, but still they can't fill a measly ground like Millmoor. 7,000 against Ipswich. Pathetic.
With support like we have, I can't see Wednesday being down for long, so watch your words Rotherham fans, because it won't be long until you're eating them.
well ive been proudly wearing my SWFC shirt today
jagielkaluva 27-11-2003, 14:16 ergh neow as if the pigs r goona cum bak up, there nearly at the bottom of div2
The amusing thing is I made this post for last season...and it seems that relegation is not totally out of the question for Sheffield Wednesday this season with their current form. :D
I can't believe how bad Wednesday are doing! We can't even get near the top of Div 2 FFS!
I can't believe that just 10 years ago we were one of the top clubs in England, now we are struggling in Division 2!
Why can't we win at Hillsborough? If we had a good home form, I'm sure we would be challenging in the top 3.
And you UTD fans, you may take the ****, but don't forget our ground is miles better than the pig-farm that is Bramall Lane!
And we get bigger attendances!
Christoph 29-11-2003, 14:39 I've felt that the kop band should be banned from Hillsborough. No offence but I have always thought that the band could be a major distraction for the Wednesday players.
Doesn't that work the same for the opposition players?
Surely it would be an advantage to we*n**d*y as their players would be used to the racket.
They should still be banned though, on the basis that they are a major annoyance to the other 49,999,999 people in the country.
