Hi!
Can anyone help me, i Have been married since end of may 09 and have been told by a friend today that there is a 3 month time limit on changing your name after marriage of 3 months!!!!
Now I haven't as yet changed my name to my husbands though i intend to when i get round to doing it with banks, etc.
Can anyone advise me on this? Is there really a time limit? If so I have never been told this before if id have known i would have changed it in time!
Thanks in advance everyone!

Just looked at the article cant see anything on when to change ur name? Is there a time limit? cant find anywhere on google either....
Whether there's a time limit or not is irrelevant when it costs less than £50 to change it any time by deed ;)

I got married in May too and haven't changed my name everywhere either!
There doesn't seem to be a black & white rule at all - but now I have different details all over the place so it's very confusing!
I changed my passport before the wedding because it was due to expire anyway and I needed it for honeymoon.
I've changed it with my bank accounts - you just take your marriage certificate in.
I haven't changed it with my doctors or driving license yet - keep meaning to but haven't got round to it
I don't think you actually need to change your name by deed poll if you are just taking your husband's surname

Yep here you go:
If a woman decides to take her husband's surname, the marriage certificate provides the necessary documentary evidence that she has changed her name.
Although, I've just checked my marriage certificate and it doesn't say anything anywhere on it about any name change

I know im still confused a bit too i cant find anything definate in black and white either
Never mind! Im sure it will be fine :( hope so lol
I know someone who didn;t get round to changing her name til 6 years after she got married :hihi:
She only started doing it after I had got married and managed to get everything changed within a month!! She thought it would be hard work, so just didn't bother. However their son had a different name to her, so she eventually decided to change from maiden to married.
No limit as far as I am aware x

I got married in June this year, and I have changed most things.... driving license, bank, payroll. But I haven't changed my passport yet as you have to pay for a new one (think it's about £76) and mine still has 8 years left on the current one. As long as I book any holidays in my maiden name it's ok.
There isn't a time limit as far as I'm aware, and you don't have to pay anything to change your name when you get married as you don't need to change it with deed poll (only charges are for the new things such as passport).
