Does anyone know how to resolve this problem "Due to an unidentified problem Windows can not display firewall settings" which I think is probably preventing from me accessing my email attachments. I think it is a hangover from XP OS problems last week. I had installed SP2 this afternoon which I then had to uninstall and restore back to a previous useable version so it now seems fairly OK apart from a few hiccoughs along the way like problems with Windows and Internet Explorer. Thanks Wendy

i know sp2 makes the firewall easier to find, change...prolly uninstalling sp2s messed it up
cos itd have moved the firewall to the control panel, then you uninstall it and have confused it?
Mel that wouldnt surprise me so have you any idea of what I need to do to put it right? When I reinstalled SP2 today the whole thing went ballistic and messed up all my internet and email connections.
Go to start>Run. Type sfc /scannow and press enter. You might be asked to insert your XP disk. If windows finds any files that are damaged or corrupted it will try to replace them.
PS. Note the space after sfc
Vidster, Ran through the whole sequence and was very careful to type in the space like you said, but didnt get any thing reported back and it didnt resolve the problem. Anyhow as it's rather late and I'm using matchsticks to keep my eyes open, I'm going to call it a day for now and look forward to your suggestions on what's next. Thanks wendy
I had the same problem a couple of days ago. Been running XP2 since it came out with no problem but 2 days ago Norton starting acting up (Windows security centre telling me it wasn't running) and the firewall stopped working, giving me the same message as you. :help:
I have since uninstalled Norton and SP2 and installed Avast and re-installed XP2. The firewall still gives me the same error message so I have had to install Zone Alarm as my firewall.
I think it's time for a format :gag:

That sounds like really, really, really bad news because I dont have the capacity for that kind of backup and I havent got the time or technical savvy to deal with all the issues involved.
