Mortimer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mortimer_Mouse). Apparently Disney's wife thought is was a "pompous" name.

Mortimer/Mickey was created as a replacement for Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (http://www.toonopedia.com/oswald.htm).

Although originally conceived by Disney, Oswald was the copyright property of Universal Pictures. After a dispute about budgets (Disney wanted an increase, he was offered a 20% cut) Disney cut his ties with the Oswald character and created one that would legally be his from the start, Mickey.

I thought it was Steamboat Willie?
