View Full Version : For those of us about to give birth soon..general moans
bluecanary 08-12-2009, 15:37 I know there are several of us who are due around now, as we all joined the first trimester thread way back in spring, when evenings were getting longer, there were leaves appearing on the trees and I could remember what my feet looked like.....
Anyway, thought it would be good to find out how everyone's getting on. Personally, I'm coming up to 38 weeks, have constant backache, frequent Braxton Hicks contractions and can't remember the last time I slept through the night without several trips to the loo! Still battling on at work, and really wishing I was at home with my feet up! Have had one false alarm so far, and am wondering how I'm going to know when the practice contractions finally turn in to the real thing!
So how's everyone else out there doing? Anyone loving this late pregnancy business? Any tips or advice from those who have gone before us?
I'm still hanging on  Just over 37 weeks and currently feeling pants! Came out of hospital yesterday and i'm on anti-biotics for the next 4 days.
I'm getting backache a lot and also had some tightenings whilst on the monitor in hospital yesterday but i didn't feel them! She's currently wedged herself right under my ribs and it bloody hurts. Struggling to sleep now cos it's just too uncomfy but OH is being fabulous and doing everything and anything he can - bless him!
Hope i don't end up being overdue, i'm not sure i'd cope :hihi:
bluecanary 08-12-2009, 16:46 Hi Binty,
I think being admitted to hospital beats my general moans and groans hands down! Really hope everything's OK.
I was monitored when I went in for my false alarm (was only in for a couple of hours) and it was odd how it picked up on some of my Braxton Hicks quite clearly, but others, which felt quite strong, it barely registered!
Also desperate not to go overdue. Need to make room for my Christmas dinner!
I know how your both feelin, this time last year i was 39wks and in pain as son was in me ribs but hospital wouldnt take me in (even tho i was dilated and had sweeps) thy made me wait till 28th to induce me but me son was worth the wait. one good thing was i got me xmas dinner cooked for me lol im just glad im not spending this xmas in so much pain as last year as im 6 and half months gone with baby no.2.
but all i can suggest is put your feet up and relax
spotty dog 09-12-2009, 08:37 im 39 weeks tomorrow!!!.went to see the midwife yesterday but we are only measuring 35 weeks.so im booked in for a scan on friday to check the placenta is still working and check baby is ok.getting loads of movement so know she is doing ok in there.hopefully they will induce me!!

bluecanary 09-12-2009, 08:55 Well, if Santa grants all our Christmas wishes, Jessops is going to be very busy just before Christmas!
Good luck with your scan Spotty. My last one at 20 weeks seems like an age way now!

Yeah i'm ok now, thank you :) Don't like the idea of having another drip in for 24hrs though :hihi:
As for Jessops taking us all, that wouldn't be a problem. When i was in Sunday morning until Monday Afternoon there was only 2 or 3 people on the labour wards! What a quiet time they were having :hihi:
Hope my LO comes before Christmas too but i'm due on the 28th!

They seemed strangely quiet when I was in the other friday night too. Must be saving themselves for the big pre-Christmas rush!
I was on Rivelin Ward at Jessops from Sunday night til yesterday afternoon for observation and they were quite quiet there too - these babies are all storing it up for one sudden woosh!!

So when the midwifes wasn't in my room, they was probably with you :hihi: I was on Norfolk Ward. Hope you're ok though.
I do believe they're waiting for us all to go piling in :D
GoGo_dancer 09-12-2009, 11:11 Hello you lot!! Just wanted to crash and wish you all the best of luck in the coming weeks, been wondering how you were all getting on with your ever expanding christmas puddings!
I just can't get over how quickly the year has gone, I bet it's starting to drag for you lot though! :hihi:
I shall be keeping an eye out for all the birth announcements.....here's to short, pain-free, stitch-free labours for all you lovely ladies!

Well they weren't with me that often so god knows where they were!! I'm doing ok, just think the baby is stuck in one spot near my right hip and is kicking the hell out of me and bruising me quite badly. Bit scary as they were checking to start with if I was in early labour - very early labour only being 23 weeks. :(
I just wanted to say good luck to you all. Such an exciting time, wishing you all lovely births! x

Oh dear - i'm guessing things are ok now though and you're not in early labour?
They must have been in with me most of the time, every sodding hour i was being woke up :hihi:

No, no, they checked my cervix and everything where it should be for now! The first night they told me to rest - yeah right, one women had had her baby and going down to SCBU every 2 hours to feed him so was setting her alarm to wake up and the other women in the women with me was being monitored every other 2 hours so being woken up with the sound of her baby heart beating and bibbing of the machines. Not sure how you're meant to relax and get some rest in there. Came home last night so having a relaxing day on the sofa today!
How you doing though? At least you havent got long to go now.

Thanks for this Go-Go, and to others who have wished us well! Have a drink or two for all of us with puddings (though my bump definitely looks more like a turkey than a pudding!). Wishing you all the best for 2010 too!
Fooman - I had a really bad hip pain, so bad I could barely walk. I don't know whether it was related, but the baby was lying sideways (transverse breech). He finally moved a couple of weeks ago, and the pain has now pretty much completely gone....
spotty dog 10-12-2009, 12:13 ditto to what blue canary said....xxxx
DeViL_WoMaN 11-12-2009, 12:21 Hey, saw this and thought I'd say I gave birth to my baby girl on 4th December at 12pm. She was due 29th November so she was 5 days late.
We named her Ella May and she's a week old today. I had 2nd degree tear so had to have stitches but they have been fine :)
She's doing well and I'm loving having a newborn again :D
bluecanary 11-12-2009, 12:50 Congratulations Devil Woman!
lubylou12 11-12-2009, 15:27 hi guys, ill be 36 weeks on sunday, so 4 weeks left till d-day, im so fed up now, hoping he comes in two and deffo doesnt go over, ill cry, i dont think i could cope,
ive been losing bits of my mucus plug slowly, midwife says it mean nothing sadly, as hes been head down since 28 weeks and 3/5 engaged since 32, im really feeling the pain down there, i feel very sore and bruised, and im now swollen in the lady bits, hurts to walk too much and i get pains in my bum when i sit too long, i cant win, i also keep getting stabbing pains down there too and siatica in my legs which make me walk funny
my hips pop when i turn over in bed, and im up all the time for pee breaks, and if thats not enough the leg cramps, OMG , i woke up screaming the other night, and ended up sitting on sofa at 4am crying,
i want this baby to come soon please santa, not due until 10th jan but this side of the year will be great lol, midwife say anything from 37-42 weeks is considered full term, so just over a week until i get to 37. i feel poop and im tired and ive had enough
haha moan over----- other then that im ready for babs
spotty dog 12-12-2009, 06:49 well i had my growth scan....she weighs approx 6lb 4oz.there isn't much fluid around her and because im 39 weeks they are inducing me today!! im sooooooo scared!! have to go in at 11.30.so just ran a bath and tidied up the house!! next time im on here i will have my baby!!wow!!xx
bluecanary 12-12-2009, 08:43 OMG - how exciting. Good luck,Spotty and don't forget to let us all know when it's all over! At least you know you'll have that baby for Christmas now!
I feel a bit sheepish about starting a general moans thread now when everyone else seems to be having a harder time than me....LubyLou, I'm really sorry it sounds like you're having a bad time of it. As well as suffering hip problems, I also had sciatica - I remember crawling up the stairs on all fours a few weeks ago. I know things are getting late for you now, but have you asked for a physio referral, because it did help me. I also had really bad leg cramps in the night - I remember waking up in agony thinking "childbirth can't be as bad as this" (though no doubt I'm about to be proved wrong!). Mine seemed to stop spontaneously, but apparently they can be down to a mineral deficiency (magnesium or potassium, I think), so might be worth considering a supplement. Anyway, I really hope things get better for you - or your LO arrives really soon!
BTW, there's an old wives' tale that the more difficult your pregnancy, the easier the birth..... I've had a relatively easy time of it compared to many of you, so if it's true, things don't look good for me!

yeah good luck spotty, i dont feel theres any piont now with 4 weeks left maybe less, for physio, may as well just wait until its over:(
the siactica is very annoying, the other day i was trying to do a freezer shop and kept limping and getting a jerking in my right leg, felt a right idiot lol, nd believe me id rather go through labour anyday then another leg cramp like my last one, its was awful, at least with labour its for a reason lol, but ill defffo try the supplement thing
ive just been saying to my mate im dreading the thought of another 4weeks, if i go 6 ill be very upset,
im hoping ill have an easier birth yeah, this is my 4th birth but worst pregnancy, i sailed through my others, oh and im stlll being sick too.
if my first had been this bad, i dont think id have hand another to be honest, ive also now discovered ive got a vaginal prolapse, which my midwife says will get worse after birth so will maybe have to have physio for months after:confused:
never again this is me done, i dont think my body can take another
good luck to you too
bluecanary 16-12-2009, 09:52 well i had my growth scan....she weighs approx 6lb 4oz.there isn't much fluid around her and because im 39 weeks they are inducing me today!! im sooooooo scared!! have to go in at 11.30.so just ran a bath and tidied up the house!! next time im on here i will have my baby!!wow!!xx

ive seen my midwife too, next visit is on xmas eve lol
but had internal yesterday at docs and the doc asked me to bear down a little and then said yes i can feel the head,
ive got 3 n half weeks left, and he must be very low now as she didnt even have to push that far up to feel head, does this mean ill go alittle early?
Ooooo its all exciting isn't it that we're all starting to have our babies now but my god hasn't time flown by - only seems like yesterday when the pregnancy announcements were starting to appear. I turn 6 months tomorrow so a little way to go but I'm so exciting about meeting our little fella.
Congratulations to spotty and good luck to all - its great hearing that they are all arriving. I can't wait!
bluecanary 21-12-2009, 17:36 Hello All!
Robbie Leonard has finally arrived, well in time for Christmas! He appeared after a relatively short labour at 3.30am on 17th Dec - his Dad's birthday! No pics yet as haven't found the time to upload any.
We had a few problems so had to stay in for a few days - can't thank the staff on Rivelin Ward in Jessops enough for all their help and support. Had an interesting journey home yesterday in the snow, and are now trying to adjust to a life with no sleep!
Great to see that some of you have also had a visit from the Stork in the last few days - congrats to you all. Any news yet LoubyLou?
PS If anyone has any tips on how to get a baby to sleep at 4am, I would love to hear them!

and nothing here yet apart from loads of braxtons:rolleyes:
I got loads of Braxton hicks leading up to my delivery, so here's hoping that things move on for you and you get your Christmas present LubyLou!
Thanks to everyone for the congrats!
Congratulations bluecanary. Hope the sleeping improves soon. My little girl is 10 weeks now and I can honestly say you get used to having less sleep! My son was a dream at sleeping from about 5 weeks so it's a bit of a shock for me. They are all so different.
Are you breast feeding? If so I really recommend a widgey cushion. My little girl is so comfy on it. She falls asleep feeding, then I just hold her asleep on the cushion for a few mins before moving her to the cot.
Good luck with everything and enjoy being a Mummy x
GoGo_dancer 22-12-2009, 13:05 Congratulations Bluecanary on the safe arrival of your little boy, hope you get into the swing of things soon!

You might well be right on time if you're not quite due yet. I admit both mine were late. I was induced with my son at 14 days over and my daughter was 10 days late but on the day she was born I had no idea she was coming. I'd resigned myself to being induced again. I think once you're close to date or overdue it just doesn't seem like anything is going to change.
At 4pm on the day my daughter was born my friend was leaving my house and we were saying how there were no signs and it wasn't looking good. Then she was born at 10.46pm. My friend was so shocked when I text her. So my advice is be prepared as it really can just take you by surprise!!
Good luck to everyone expecting.
xx
laughalot01 27-12-2009, 09:58 any news on binty anyone know if anything happened yet xx

awww bless him:hihi:
your so lucky to be at your due date hun, i dont feel i can take anymore, spesh with this cough, im up all night coughing and weeing myself boohoo, i thought id broke my waters earlier as my bladder was completely empty and i still had a big gush with a cough fit, but nothing since:mad:
Run up and down the stairs? I can barely walk up them without hurting :hihi:
I maybe another one of these that sees the due date and goes beyond it! :hihi: If only i could evict herself myself :D
Hope you start to feel better soon, you need all your energy for when you give birth!
Bethsmummy 27-12-2009, 21:25 Aaaahhhhh you two must be well pi***d by now. You mustve both got a lovely womb with a veiw cuz them little cuties dont wanna vacate.
So sorry your not well Louby, still its probably natures way of getting the flu out of the way before you have a new baby to look after.
Big hugs to both of you. x
I don't think Louby's due for another 3 weeksish but she's had it rough these past couple of weeks, bless her.
Bethsmummy 27-12-2009, 22:39 Yeah I know shes not quite as well baked as your little un, but I had beth 3 weeks early and she was 8lb5oz so you just never know.
Best wishes to you both and cant wait for the news x
RozeePozee 28-12-2009, 10:23 Spare a thought for me ladie. I'm just over 21 weeks pregnant with twins and feel as achey as I did when I was about 8 months pregnant with my last child. Not a happy bunny today :(
lubylou12 28-12-2009, 15:55 Run up and down the stairs? I can barely walk up them without hurting
haha yeah i know what ya mean lol hard work isnt it lol
i hope i feel better too, feel worse today and now got lots of tummy aches and back aches from the coughing,
been getting worried im slowly leaking fluid, i know coughing can make you pee lots:gag:
but lastnight i kept emptying my bladder until nothing left but 5 min later id cough and get a big gush, was up until 5 am trying to work out if it pee or not, went through 7 maternity pads, 3 pairs of pants and 3 pairs bottoms, ive been told to smell it, and have done and smells if nothing at all?
doesnt smell of wee at all, so may sound sad but the next time id been to tiolet and emptied bladder, i stood and waited for a cough, and managed to catch some in a clear glass, sorry if too much info:gag:
and to me its not clear but doesnt look like wee, its very very slightly yellow, which ive read it can look like watered down chicken stock or clear:gag:
now this is really gona sound minging:hihi: but i even sniffed the pants id gone thru lastnight thinking if is wee it will smell when dried:gag: and its still smells of nothing, the pants and bottoms smell clean as anything even though i saturated them lastnight
ive had nothing more since lastnight, was gona see if it did it again but im dry as anything now, ive heard if babys very engaged he can block a leakage of fluid and its can happen in bits if a slow leak.
i dunno, i dont want to waste anyones time asking them to take me to hospital to have it checked incase it is just wee:mad:
ill feel such a numpty

im due in bang on 1 week and 6 days and counting :D
just feel like i cant take no more

Best wishes to you both and cant wait for the news x
1 week 6 days lol, can make it 1 week 5 days in a few hours pmsl, im so obsessed its driving me mad:loopy::loopy: and midwife says she thinks hes about 8lbs now
im hoping my body does the same as my others, my first i went into labour on my due date but the labour was so long i ended up being 3 days over when he came
my 2nd was born 1 day before her due date
and my 3rd was 7 days early,
so heres hoping i follow same pattern lol
lubylou12 28-12-2009, 16:01 Spare a thought for me ladie. I'm just over 21 weeks pregnant with twins and feel as achey as I did when I was about 8 months pregnant with my last child. Not a happy bunny today :(
awww poor you, twins is lovely but cant imagine how hard that is:)
Bethsmummy 28-12-2009, 18:29 Sounds to me like you may be slowly leaking Louby. I would ring triage at jessops becauseI think once your waters have ruptured they like to moniter you. I may be wrong it may be when theyve gone fully but it might be worthwhile finding out. They wont see you as a nuisance honey, its what theyre there for.
I had a really bad day boxing day, dont know if anybodys heard of it but Ive got something called symphises pubis dysfunction. It started about 24 weeks with Bethany and by 34 weeks I could barely walk.
It started really early this time around 12 weeks. Jessops have been great and got me an appointment with physio straightaway. Theyve done all they can, given me the tummy band and all the usual but I'm only sixteen weeks and it gets progressively worse. I cooked christmas dinner for the family but on boxing day I could hardly walk. Agony.
They have warned me I could further into the pregnancy, end up either on crutchs or worse still in a wheelchair for a short time so I'm kinda dreading it.
lubyylou12, I think Bethsmummy is right. I had the exact thing with my daughter and it went on for 2 weeks, as every time I phoned triage they said I'd wee'd, even though it didn't smell of wee. I mean I'm sure I could tell whether it was, but they just wouldn't have it. It would happen as I sat down, coughed and in the middle of the night in bed. Then one day, it had a slight tinge of pink to it and then finally triage wanted me in. They found that I was leaking waters and booked me in for induction 2 days later, as they don't like you to go over 48 hours as infection can occur. (Again, please remember I was in Derby so Derby Hospital might not be as on the ball as Jessops). The good news is that I did go in to spontaneous labour the next night, so didn't need the induction.
Don't worry about phoning them, that's what there job is for, to give you advice when you need it.
Bethsmummy 28-12-2009, 19:31 Doode is spot on. once the membranes have ruptured, infection can get in via the same route the fluids are getting out. So they like baby to be out within a couple of days.
Give em a ring chick at least by tommorow if you think youre leaking through the night again.
With a bit of luck they'll induce you. LOL

I would say it wasn't very noticeable for the first week, just a few accidents. They were mainly at night, so I wasn't totally sure as to whether I had 'wet' the bed. But then the second week, it started happening more frequent at least once a day. As I sat down, coughed or again at night. My DD was only 6lb 3oz and was born about 10 days early. I had no other labour signs other than a bout of contractions on the day I had the pink tinge and went in to hospital. They stopped and then nothing else for two days and then I went into labour. They thought it was my waters at the back that was leaking. I didn't have any gushing of waters at all, so I'm guessing that it must have been my waters leaking. Take care.
Binty - Hope all goes well for you soon.

She seems happy enough kicking and rolling around in there so she'll come when she's ready :) No amount of RLT, castor oil, nipple rhubarb will get her out i don't think.

hi hun, still feeling really down after the 9 hours of contractions i had, midwife also thinks they were real ones as they went from my back to my tummy, lasted 50 secs each, were painful and were regular for 9 hours:rolleyes: she said it means something happening and im very close, but she also thought they would come back and wished me luck:confused:
but no they didnt, had a few lastnight but nothing regular, all i have today is tummy aches and backaches:mad: i feel so deflated now......but if anything those contractions should have at least done something like dialate me hopefully
havnt seen anything of binty on facebook today hope something is happening for her
i so hope binty having more luck and hope shes ok, im waiting for the good news to come:)

In a bit of a daze here. Baby Canary has developed colic and screams from 9pm-2am and don't know what I'd do without my OH who sits up with him half the night to let me have at least a couple of hours sleep! During the day he's the cutest baby ever and butter wouldn't melt - it's like some kind of werewolf-esque transformation!
As for nappies, the dirty ones come thick and fast and I'm embarrassed to admit we're still on the disposables....
Still logging on every day to see what's going on with Luby Lou and Binty. Come on girls, get on those birthing balls and start brewing the raspberry leaf tea! I really feel for you both - the sleepless nights aren't exactly fun but I would much rather be doing that than sitting around overdue!
Bethsmummy 04-01-2010, 11:26 Christmas week I was at Jessops for an antenatel appointment. I Got my dad to drop me off what with the parking been such a nightmare, When I was finished I had to wait a while for my dad to pick me up, so I sat on one of the two chairs in the entrance next to the pharmacy.
The pharmacy was closed for dinner for a few minutes more. But in walks a lady and stands waiting for it to open.
naturally we began talking and she told me that her little one was 6 weeks, shed had colic for weeks and shed tried gripe water and infacol but nothing was working.
She went on to explain that shed told her sister that the baby was suffering, and her sister (who just happened to be a GP) told her not to fanny around with those old remedies, that there was only one medicine that worked and that it was called colief.
It is only available at Jessops pharmacy and they dont stock much, so if your going to try and get some then I suggest you ring them first, like this lady did.
Its not cheap either it was £9.99 but her sister GP swore by it and I know that they naturally know all the best medicines but have to give patients the cheaper alternative.
Hope this helps I know Im going to remember this info for in a few months time. Take care and good on hubby letting you get some sleep, big high five for him. x
I've heard colief is good. I've seen it in Co - op pharmacies. I thought about using it but it sounded like it would be hard when breastfeeding as you have to mix with the milk.
MissGiggles 04-01-2010, 12:07 yes ive hear colieft is excellent to. You can get it on prescription or boots sell it to x

awwww hun i really feel for you, my little girl had it and its terrible, she also screamed from 9-2am and i was shattered.
i found infacol didnt work for her at all, and only gripe water helped but cant remember how old they have to be to take it, ive already got colief in the cupboard just in case.
lol i wish hed come, ive got 6 days left and didnt expect to get this far as i had my son at 39 weeks, and ive drank enough raspberry leaf tea and swollowed enough capsules for life lol n dont think its helping much:(

bluecanary 04-01-2010, 14:08 Thanks to all for the tips. Pharmacist told my OH that like gripe water, Colief can be used at 1 month +. Ten days to go and counting!

well friday night i contracted every 6 mins for 9 hours n they stopped:mad:
and since ive been having strong braxtons ever since but very irregular, they go on for hours and do hurt a little but then stop, just dont progress, im pooping since yesterday about 6 times per day and get strong pains while im doing so,and also getting lots of pelvic pressure when baby moves, lastnight i was up at 4 am puking and still feel really sick now, so heres hoping lol as im due on sunday:D:D and i find after a bath the pains seem to get worse n closer together only to wake up normal in the morning, and im also getting sharpe stabbing stitch like pains in the right side of my tummy when i cough, ouch, oh and i have terrible gas too sorry for TMI
sorry for rant lol but im getting peed off now as all this seems to be going no where

I had a sweep on a Friday and by Monday nothing. I was really miserable about it as I remember looking at the time and counting how many hours it had left to work! I went into labour Tuesday evening and my baby within a few hours. It will probably take you by surprise and it does sound like you've had signs that something is going to happen soon. After the sweep I had tummy aches too. Keep positive! x

I know how crap it is as my son was 15 days late and my daughter 10 but the way I tried to look at it which kept me sane was that it was only a matter of days before I'd have that baby in my arms. It won't be long now and you'll have forgotten about all the waiting x
