DaFoot 08-12-2009, 12:42 Do you mean legality of breeding? I don't know that you'd need a licence or anything according to law. If you think the animals are suffering (eg. puppy farm rather than 1 off litter) give the Sheffield RSPCA a ring and see what they say. moondust 08-12-2009, 12:48 Thanks for your reply. The neighbour doesn't seem to be hot on animal welfare. I had to report them last year. Just wondered about the regulations etc. I phoned the licencing dept at the council but what they told me contradicted other info I had found out. The kennels are right on the boundary of my ajoining garden. i fear a summer full of barking, feaces smell and flies! CollieBird 08-12-2009, 21:30 Sheffield byelaws require that anyone breeding a bitch, even just a pet, needs a breeders licence from the council, and their property must meet certain requirements. The law also states that puppies can only be sold by a licenced breeder from their own licenced premises or sold to a licenced pet shop. Whether or not Sheffield Council bother to uphold this is debatable. In my experience it seems like this law only applies where it suits. moondust 08-12-2009, 21:58 Thanks colliebird. taxman 08-12-2009, 22:03 Cough...cough.....taxable income.....cough...cough...... carbooter10 09-12-2009, 11:28 I was under the impression that anyone with TWO bitches that were being bred had to have a breeding license . Id personally say that 99% dont bother and tax dodge the system to the max . We've had debates about iffy breeders many times in this group but that's never been mentioned before CollieBird 11-12-2009, 19:52 Information came from Shaun Bell, Animal Control and Enforcement Officer at Sheffield City Council. Email him on Shaun.Bell@sheffield.gov.uk Strix 15-12-2009, 03:26 Does this mean that Sheffield will be making use of this useful piece of legislation in the future, or perhaps the RSPCA would be able to prosecute locally using it? Seems like hardly anyone is aware of that on here as far as I know... :suspect: Ghostrider 15-12-2009, 11:51 To the OP - do you live in S5 ? We have something very similar to us... willman 15-12-2009, 12:08 http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/business-economy/licensing/general-licensing/animals/breeding-of-dogs-licences I think if people report them to animal enforcementthey "might" do something although i doubt it personally. Strix 15-12-2009, 15:37 That seems to suggest that the only legislation covering dog breeding in Sheffield is the national legislation in place since 1973, no byelaws ka2010 15-12-2009, 18:53 hi, i remember quiet clearly last year i bought a shihtzu puppy and my friend went for one but they had all gone so she rang another advert and went and bought another one, we compaired pedigrees etc and found out these 2 puppies were of the same people more digging we found out they were breeding in an upstairs bedroom and making huge profits with no welfare to the dogs etc! I rang everyone i coukld think of, local council, tax, animal welfare etc etc, it stopped for so long as they informed her she did indeed need a licence, i noticed just 3 weeks ago she is advertising again on viva street, admag, and 2 other pet sites, she doesnt care about these puppies or how they turn out she is just in it for the money, i wish the RSPCA would do something about these kind of people but they bounce back when the dust settles! good look in your quest I hope that you get this sorted. We questioned someone puppy farming and selling the pups at dog shows. That was the reply we got. However the RSPCA/Council only seem interested in upholding the law when it suits. They told us that they scan internet sites for the same people repeatedly selling pups. As no outcome of this is made public, believe it if you will. |
