View Full Version : What's your favourite sci-fi programme? coral_amber 07-08-2005, 18:18 im wot u call a sci-fi junky.............. but all startreks and stargate are my favorate.................. wots urs ? crazybabe 07-08-2005, 18:23 My fav has gotta be star trek deep space nine, i love watching it, cant get enough of it. Like watching other star treks aswell. foo_fighter 07-08-2005, 18:29 Originally posted by coral_amber ...wots urs ? Proper sci-fi, Babylon 5... ...sort of sci-fi (?) Millennium (actually one of my all time favourite series). :) JoeP 07-08-2005, 18:33 Would say Deep Space Nine, The X Files, Farscape.... Firefly has to be a close contender as well, along with Dark Skies. Joe vidster 07-08-2005, 18:37 Farscape gets the nod from me 8) Jon 07-08-2005, 18:47 Doctor Who and Babylon 5 also The X Files, Space 1999, UFO, Sapphire and Steel, The Twilight Zone, Lost in space. StarSparkle 07-08-2005, 18:49 So many.... Firefly, Farscape, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Blake's 7, Andromeda.... but really I enjoy loads more. Still love a lot of the old Dr Whos, for example. StarSparkle desy 07-08-2005, 18:50 Farscape - Claudia Black leapy78 07-08-2005, 18:53 erm..... Red Dwarf? Rich 07-08-2005, 19:05 Deep Space 9, especially the later seasons with Nicole DeBoer as the new Dax.. Mmm hmm, I would. Deadstar 07-08-2005, 19:17 All time fav has to be american gothic. Had a brilliant cast and a great sound track. All the star treks and star gate. Beakerzoid 07-08-2005, 21:21 Firefly, Farscape, Doctor Who, Battlestar galactica (new), Babylon 5. Almost made its include Star Trek (any but Voyager), Stargate (so much better now Ben Browder on board), X-Files (until season 4). SilentStatic 07-08-2005, 21:36 Blatantly Red Dwarf - what's wrong with you people :P Deavon 07-08-2005, 22:17 Babylon 5 is definitely the best sci-fi story ever told on T.V. I really loved 'The Hitchiker's Guide To The Galaxy' , BBC version as a close second. Very close 3rd; Blake's 7. (Just for the music alone). I don't have Sky so I'm in the Sci-Fi television 'underclass'. D2J 07-08-2005, 22:31 Out of many I've gone for the X-Files.. In fact I'm gonna dash of soon and watch some :D vidster 07-08-2005, 22:33 Does Dragonball Z count as sci-fi? I love watching it  WallBuilder 07-08-2005, 23:08 Boy some of you lot are really scraping the bottom of the barrel with some of your choices. Two that haven't been mentioned which some people may argue aren't sci-fi are the Twilight Zone and the Outer Limits. Phanerothyme 08-08-2005, 00:17 futurama - no contest. Sierra 08-08-2005, 02:05 Originally posted by WallBuilder Boy some of you lot are really scraping the bottom of the barrel with some of your choices. Two that haven't been mentioned which some people may argue aren't sci-fi are the Twilight Zone and the Outer Limits. Yes, yes!!! I love the Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits. But I mean the original black and white ones, from the 1960's, I didn't care much for the remakes. There was also a TV series called One Step Beyond http://www.scifilm.org/tv/osb/ produced around the same time as The Twilight Zone. I loved this show when I was a kid. But I only saw it in reruns, heh. And Alfred Hitchcock Presents. But that really wasn't sci fi. Rod Serling also did another TV series, maybe not sci fi? But more occult or paranormal called The Night Gallery. http://www.nightgallery.net/index.html?title.html&0 My sisters and I found it really scary! My husband's oldest sister was living in Los Angeles, and attended a cocktail party in West Hollywood one night in the early 1970's, and actually met Rod Serling. She later said he was really weird, but an intelligent and interesting man. :) Sierra hoba 08-08-2005, 10:46 Deep Space Nine would get my vote, especially once Sisko shaved his head and started getting into the Bajorean prophecies a lot more. Once he got a chip on his shoulder basically. Neon Genesis Evangelion would also have to be up there as well. I think this is probably the most important anime series ever made. *Turbo* 08-08-2005, 11:01 Being around 9 years old at the time i use to really love V. Could not get enough. Got it all on video. Looking back 20 years on it does look cheesy now. Not the best acting, sets, some story lines and V the series but the feeling of watching the very first episode as a kid when Marc Singer video taped the mothership comeing over the horizon was brilliant. Something that has stayed in my mind for many years!!! A note to all the youngster's (and maybe myself, as someone will most likely correct my my memory!!) V was really big in 1983/4. I thought at the time (and again the more Sci-fi loving brigrade will most likely correct me) that V really brought sci-fi to the mainframe. At the time i think only one star trek film came out but in the UK i think V was the main sci-fi program to be on at prime time. Think it was on around 10/10.30pm on ITV, which was a major acheivement (even though i cant spell the word!!) for a sci-fi program. It was big budget at the time and quite a few stars who potter around in lower grade films today. Rumour has it a new series is being made? Not 100% Thanks for reading, quite a mouthfull from me today! SpiderPete 08-08-2005, 11:42 Oh dear found a sci-fi topic, I am a BIG sci-fi fan (hence my website) and funnily enough I have a "Best sci-fi programme" poll on my website, its here if anyone wants to vote. Favourite Sci-Fi series (http://www.myscifi.co.uk/scifipoll.html) Not surprisingly 45% of the vote goes to Babylon 5 for me the best story arc series ever, it is gripping, great storylines, great acting, even good guest stars as well, and the thing that makes a sci-fi series is special affects, which B5 had plenty off. The same cannot be said for The Next Generation series which lacked that, although Data/Picard stood out. Voyager picked up once 7of9 came into it. nick2 08-08-2005, 12:11 Voyager, I think is the best Star Trek offering, I got the other half every episode on video for Christmas, it takes some watching :) I'm not a fan of TNG, it all seems to "acted", like everyone knows the end of the episode so they don't bother having any reactions to the problems. my mate calls it "Thespians In Space". coral_amber 08-08-2005, 19:59 apart from startrek and stargate (series) i really enjoy the startrek movies...............did u notice startrek insurrection on tv lastnight ........... SpiderPete 08-08-2005, 20:08 The Star trek movies were goodf, esp the last one "Nemesis", my fav one. Also liked American Gothic, Dark Skies, War of the Worlds, Lost in Space coral_amber 08-08-2005, 20:16 peter u sound like my perfect movie buddy  SpiderPete 08-08-2005, 20:20 Well I could talk sci-fi all nght, ther is no end to what I like. Now starting to collect dvd box sets, Collecting Roswell series, they only did 3 of them. Got all B5 box sets. Maybe I should have a "sci-fi movie night" coral_amber 08-08-2005, 20:22 oh yeah roswell is a fav of mine............i agree u should have a sci-fi night   SpiderPete 08-08-2005, 20:28 Another one I want the box sets of is one that isnt mentioned much. Earth Final Conflict Da`an and Zo`or were my favs. Well u got me thinkin about the sci-fi night thing, plenty of people on ere like it, and my brother got his pc wired to the TV. It will make me watch them more as well, as I tend to buy them and dont even watch them at all. it could be a "sci-fi" "food" "drink" night Rich 08-08-2005, 20:41 Originally posted by peter41 The Star trek movies were goodf, esp the last one "Nemesis", my fav one. Also liked American Gothic, Dark Skies, War of the Worlds, Lost in Space I thought Nemesis sucked compared to other Next Generation themed Trek movies such as First Contact for instance.. IMO they should do an Enterprise movie akin to Generations, where the crew of Archer's Enterprise meet up with Captain Kirk and crew, it would be unoriginal I know but it would tie up Enterprise plot-wise with it being a prequel to the original series. coral_amber 08-08-2005, 21:00 yes i agree rich .............. gene roddenberry should fetch another startrek movie tieing up the two stories .............. obviously william shatner is too old to play the part of james t kirt :o Rich 08-08-2005, 21:32 Originally posted by coral_amber yes i agree rich .............. gene roddenberry should fetch another startrek movie tieing up the two stories .............. obviously william shatner is too old to play the part of james t kirt :o True but they could always find a younger Willam Shatner lookalike to take the role of Kirk, one that looks enough like him to appease the hardcore Trekkies though. Something that has stayed in my mind for many years!!! Wow...I forgot about V! Being in my 30s, I was at the right age to encounter that great show when it was made. The mini series was amazing, and the full attempt at a series that followed was good too, albeit short lived. It still holds well today, IMHO, and I have it on DVD somewhere (gonna dig it out again now). There has been talk on Sci-Fi channel US of a proposed sequel to the show. The original writer is involved, and it is planned to answer the question of what happens 20 years later. Remember the message sent out by the resitance, to contact the enemies of the visitors? Well, what if the enemy of my enemy is not actually my friend? What if the visitors, who now control most of earth, are actually tame in comparisson? Those were the proposed ideas, and I would love to see the show revived. Finally....I think it would be fantastic if Gene Roddenberry made another Star Trek movie too. Admittedly they would have to dig him up and conduct some weird voodoo ritual to get some life out of him, but hey...it would be worth it! nick2 09-08-2005, 08:44 V was a bit corny but the story was good, and didn't rely on special effects to keep you watching. how long did it go on for ? what happened at the very end ? Did they get rid of the lizard people ? kneetrembler 09-08-2005, 08:58 there are loads of scarey movies ........... action movies and romance movies at the cinema but its very rare theres a sci-fi movie at the cinema...............the last sci-fi showing at the cinema was star wars 3 (which i really enjoyed.......great viewing) i say there should be more sci-fi movies..........ive enjoyed this thread cos sci-fi is a passion of mine and chatting to fellow sci-fi junkys has been great coral_amber 09-08-2005, 09:05 Oh yes kneetrembler i think there should be more sci-fi movies ........... but i would love to see a few more movies on the scf-fi programmes we have on tv now or wot was on tv ............... roswell......farscape........andromeda and so on .............why oh why cant we have a sci-fi channel on freeview  *Turbo* 09-08-2005, 09:23 Originally posted by Beakerzoid Wow...I forgot about V! I believe they are filiming the new series now, according to a website about Faye Grant, who played Juliet Parrish. Its written by Kenneth Johnson, the original creater. The original V was made in 1983. It mainly concentrated on about when they originally came to earth and ended on the attack at the campiste where Robert Maxwell (?) wife died. V - The final Battle in 1984 was i think a 3 or 4 part series that ended when they discovered the red dust and drove the aliens away. V - The Series 1985 or 86 was in my opinion pants!! Kenneth Johnstone was not involved and it made to cash in on the earler series. It ended when Elizabeth went to the home planet. It started with the stars from the original but they graurally disappeared!! Ended with about two stars!!! Hopefully the new series will be great!! SpiderPete 09-08-2005, 10:50 Another 2 I have thought of, might seem a bit odd to mention: Reboot - the animated programme for kids (yes I know), but I found it really good, might not be completely sci-fi though. Sky - the alien boy with blue eyes. I can remember watching this when I was a kid, found it a bit scary in parts as well. Quite liking the new Battlestar Galactica series. nick2 09-08-2005, 11:22 Does anyone else remember Fantasic Journey, it used to be on Saturday morning ? Roddy McDowell was great. http://epguides.com/FantasticJourney/ I thought it was on longer than 10 episodes though. "Lost in the Devil's Triangle, trapped in a dimension with beings from the future and other worlds, a party of adventurers journey through zones of time back to their own time. Varian, a man from the 23rd century, possessing awesome powers; from 1977; Fred, a young doctor just out of medical school; Scott Jordan, the thirteen-year-old son of a famous scientist; Liana, daughter of an Atlantean father and an extraterrestrial mother; and Jonathan Willaway, a rebel scientist from the 1960s. Together they face the frightening unknown on... The Fantastic Journey. " Aliens, Atlantians, future people, doctors, adventures......what more could you want ? Beakerzoid 09-08-2005, 22:27 Logan's Run - Great film....ropey TV show. Still, I'd be more than happy to see a modern day version (and don't go pointing me at The Island...seen it and after a promising first half hour, it decends into 'typical Michael Bay crap' for the rest of the film) kneetrembler 10-08-2005, 09:18 anyone remember tomorrows people (ooops showing my age here lol) i can only remember bits myself tho, but i used to watch it as a kid. ferret 10-08-2005, 09:42 Anyone remember puppet sci-fi Starfleet? The goodies had a spaceship that had a special weapon in the shape of an x laser. The heros each had a little red fighter that came out of, and put together it'd makke a big red robot that walked. And who could forget Ulysess (spelling?) or choccy or Battle of the Planets eh? Hmm, Tomorrows People.. I'm trying to think. But it's hard. But thats really fantastic. I'd love all these oldies to go to the pictures for big-screen entertainment. Perhaps a phone call to the Showroom. Is there anywhere you know of that plays this stuff then? I dont own a telly anymore out of choice. (4years and counting-finally dont know whats happening in enders!) How true is that. Drifter movie meets david banner meets b-movie. Brilliant. Though I seem to remember it dragged out a little too long. He was a great actor though. A little obtuse, a touch awkward. I quite enjoyed that series... shame they only made the one... Also enjoyed V, and of course Doctor Who, The Hitchhikers Guide (BBC), and most of the star treks. Stargate (& Atlantis) Star Trek (from Next Gen onwards) Red Dwarf The X Files Farscape SpiderPete 12-08-2005, 21:54 From what I have seen of Stargate:Atlantis I am liking, esp the Wraith, they look a good baddie. Midwich Cuckoos, The Chrysalids, The trouble with Lichen... Don't know if they were made into films tho. SpiderPete 22-10-2005, 15:18 I was gonna do this as a poll but might as well fasten it to the sci-fi thread. Which do you prefer out of these : Battlestar Galactica - new series or old series ? I have seen nearly all of the new one and must say I like it, the Cylons are much better, not sure about them taking human form though, effects are alot better. Stargate or Stargate:Atlantis ? The new one is growing on me alot, its on a bad night Friday`s but now I am cutting down on going out I can watch it every week, cannot wait until the new series of Stargate comes back on TV. bassplayer 24-10-2005, 12:21 Been away for a while and just started to catch up on the threads. Some good oldies have been mentioned but does anyone remember Battle Of the Planets with ; Jason, Mark, Tiny Keeop, that girl whose name I can' t remember and 7 zark 7 with 1 rover 1?
