View Full Version : Bring back pay on the gate.
LADYBIRDS 06-12-2009, 18:10 The Owls had a "one off" pay on the gate match against Reading to compliment the £5/10 rush of customers.
Should the pay on the gate be re introduced? it may encourage the part time supporter, who wont commit himself to buying a ticket days in advance yet come Saturday feels he has the time and cash to go.
CorkerSWFC 06-12-2009, 18:11 We still have pay on the gate just not that cheap.
LADYBIRDS 06-12-2009, 18:25 WE DONT :(
like for the Palace match , i have fellow blades coming up from the south, and have to make a special journey to get tickets on a non match day, or trust the on-line and post facility. The only other option is to battle the ticket office match day queue!!
CorkerSWFC 06-12-2009, 18:39 Can you not print off your own tickets online to save having to trust the post?
Panthera 06-12-2009, 18:47 theres always a pay turnstile on each home stand but as corker says its just not cheap.
Stockers 06-12-2009, 19:22 I think its down to trust, back in the late eighties early nineties weren't some Blades turnstyle attendants jailed for nicking about £10k a season from the club?
With the internet its very easy to order online but not so easy for these in town thinking 'sod it, i will go to the match'

I love them turnstiles as not many use them and no one realises you can still swipe your season card at them. So I avoid the queue everytime :D

Were they Wednesdayites?:hihi: Suppose there had to be an element of trust back then, but now with the new turnstiles, wouldn't they record how many go through, therefore you could check the 'till' to check no attendant has knabbed any money?
CorkerSWFC 06-12-2009, 19:26 U ought to have seen the pay turnstyles at St Jame's park for the Toon fan's the que was from one side of the ground to the other.
There easilly blaggable mind, my dad gave a lad a fiver who must have been stood there since 6 o clock and he let us all stand in front of him lmao.

The old ones you could jump over no worries.
There is also a benefit to non maned turnstyles, no one knows you're not a student or under 16yrs old :)

There was a feeling that the attendances announced didn’t add up then I can remember one game when the announcement was met by a mixture of laughter and shock, it was obvious something had to change.

Yeah, I noticed that at United. Wednesday's turnstiles are still manned, and I have to show my student card sometimes.

Except the ones inside that watch the lights above the turnstile.

I worked at the lane for 4 years starting around 1998 and the first job i had there, they gave me a clicker and asked me to count how many adults were coming through a certain turnstile all together there were about 8 of us doing this for about 4 games, apparently the turnstile operators were taking payments off adults but giving them child tickets and pocketing the difference.

NO:) we are such a poor and badly ran club, i am thinking of holding a one man protest in the norfolk arms :)
As a season ticket holder it does seem a dated system of getting additional match day tickets.
all it needs is one or two cash paying turnstyles on each stand. Maybe the ideas to simple!
But am sure thescheme would pay for its self in additional custom.
wy don't they just ring up and order them- then they only have to collect them from the collections booth rather than going to the ticket office?
Or maybe you could go down and get them for them?
I think the new system is great- its a huge leap forward and it reduces the cost of machdays for the blades- which only helps the club in the long-term.
LADYBIRDS 07-12-2009, 13:23 I often arrange for tickets for exiled blades, i either collect and make a special journey or buy on line.
My point is one or two cash turnstyles would help the occasional fan who may not make his mind up until the Saturday if he /she can make the match.

Not on the Kop they don't, one of the lads regularly attends on his sons student ticket and hasn't been caught in 2yrs.

Its only on a few occasions when his son isn't attending.

Why should united change a very expensive system and bend over backwards for the 'occasional' fan??
If they want to go to the game its as easy as getting to the ticket office before 2pm- which isn't hard is it- you just have to spend a little less time in the pub?
