I had a problem with the pc a while ago (to do with usb ports and the pc locking up).
Upshot was, I was playing around in the bios, as you do, to try to rule out various options, and at some point set the cpu clock to 160 instead of 166, and not realised i'd done it.
Subsequently I had a lot of crashes and freezes, which i managed to resolve by reducing the memory speed to 266 instead of the rated 333 mhz.

Today I got around to doing some investigation and found the 160 setting in cpu speed. Increased it to 166, memory back upto 333 and everything is stable.
It's the first time i've heard about a pc being made unstable by underclocking it...
