View Full Version : Your favourite Christmas movies
Berberis 06-12-2009, 15:51 It’s December so it’s time to roll out the Christmas movies. I have my favourites but I was thinking, were there any I had missed. So if you have a favourite movie on the theme of Christmas, let me and other know.
My top Christmas movie has to be Christmas Vacation (1989) closely followed by The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992).
dieselbabe 06-12-2009, 16:32 Santa Claus the Movie for me, it reminds me of when i use to watch it has a kid and had the books also. Also like Scrooged bill murray one, Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, The Grinch, a few others.

Lt.ShelfLife 06-12-2009, 18:26 For me, Home Alone. Was part of my childhood and I still find it hilarious to this day. It just has the nostalgia value, plus I love seeing people get hurt...

epiphany 07-12-2009, 00:25 My top Christmas movie has to be Christmas Vacation (1989)
Watch it every Christmas without fail. Genius, essential comedy filmage.
"A Christmas Story", "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer" (and the other Rankin/Bass TV specials), and "It's A Wonderful Life" are requisite viewing for me each Christmastime.
"Die Hard" often makes it into the rotation, as well. ;-)
Vague_Boy 07-12-2009, 02:42 Can I say "The Great Escape"? Well OK, not exactly a Christmas themed movie (even if they did sing Christmas carols to drown out the noise of the tunneling). But for people of a certain age, it still evokes memories of Christmas, mainly because it always seemed to be shown then.
OK, how about "Scrooged". Now THAT's a proper Christmas film.

Definitely The Great Escape, and also The Railway Children - again, nowt to do with Christmas, but I always associate it with Christmas.
I like to see these movies at Christmas -
Home Alone 1 & 2
Gremlins
Scrooge (1951 Alastair Sim)
Ghostbusters (really!)
Oliver
It's a Wonderful Life and The Railway Children -both have several moments that trigger uncontrollable blubbering on my part - must be the sherry
Obviously It's a Wonderful Life, Christmas Vacation and Scrooged - surprised no-one's said Wizard of Oz - I know it isn't a Christmas themed film, but it's on most Christmases - also like Love Actually, but I'm sad like that
Grinch - probably more than once.
Great Escape - my sister loves this film
small_hall 07-12-2009, 11:45 Home Alone - love this film . I grew up with it and still love watching it to this day .
The Polar Express - Always gives me a christmassy feeling :)
fred_notdead 08-12-2009, 19:35 Tim Burton's 'Nightmare Before Christmas'
.
Vague_Boy 09-12-2009, 04:33 and also The Railway Children
I must confess I love that film and have watched it many, many times.
The TV remake in 2000 didn't really "grab" me very much at the time, but then again, how could you improve on perfection?
Bad santa - absolutely hilarious
Jack Frost - makes me cry everytime
A muppet christmas carol - excellent
The Snowman (blub!)
Elf - hillarious.
The Grinch - equally as hillarious.

Vague_Boy 11-12-2009, 00:08 Anybody a fan of "The Bishop's Wife" (please, no smutty comments chaps).
It's a brilliant Christmas movie (Cary Grant, David Niven) but seems practically forgotten these days.
