My partner and i are interested in a property in Gleadless but will be very new to the city. We currently live in Manchester. Is there anything anyone can tell us about this area, i.e is it a good place to live and how good are te local amenities. Also if any one has lives in both Manchester and Sheffield or knows both areas well can you compare in to anywhere in Manchester.
Thanks for the help.
Melissa

One of my best friends moved to Gleadless last week into a new-build. I've been up there tonight, and it's really lovely. I'd recommend!

Andy is quite right. Indeed, if you can be more specific, I may be able to give you some advice. I'll PM you.

Whereabouts in Manchester are you from?
I moved to Sheffield from Manchester five years ago. I have to say that I don't think there is any where like Gleadless in Manchester so it is hard to say. I live nearby and perhaps the best thing about the locale is its proximity to the city centre as well as being quite green.

That area's pretty much O.K Mel. You're quite near plenty of shops and the area is kept nice by its residents.
Best comparison to Manchester I can make is the Northern Moor area of Wythenshawe.
Hope that helps.

I live just round the corner from Hurlfield Avenue so know it well.

The best way of finding out about the area as a whole would be to look at UpYourStreet.com (not certain that that is the correct web address but something like that. You will need a postcode to pin point Hurlfield Avenue, if you haven't got on, use mine S12 2US.

If you need a school the nearest one (5 mins walk away) is Mrytle Springs - perhaps the worst in Sheffield, avoid it like the plague.

Everything else is OK, near to shops, near to supertram route and bus route to city centre just round the corner. Decent pub about 100 yds away - the Punchbowl, more up market one - the New Inn about half mile away. Swimming pool at Myrtle Springs open to the public, private gym 5 minutes walk away.
