View Full Version : Comp Builders on the Forum?

I'm about to buy a new comp in January/February 2010 but I haven't yet decided on whether to build it myself or whether to buy a ready made system. I am also not entirely sure what my budget will be, but I reckon somewhere around £1100 (and for that I will need Monitor, Mouse and Keyboard as well). The comp will mostly be for gaming.

My question is whether there are any builders here on the forum who might assist me in picking parts, building the comp and then, eventually, also help me in OC'ing it.

Anyone interested in getting together for a couple of beers and chit chat about building comps and gaming (I live in Walkley)? I know this bit sounds very much like an add on a socialising site, so just let me make it clear that I have a girlfriend and all that :D

Cheers.

Thanks for you reply, MDK.SIE. Just to clarify my original post a bit. I am fairly certain about some of the things I want. I will most likely go for an Intel I5, 2.66 (no need for an I7 for gaming, I think), ATI 4890 with a mobo that will support xfire (thinking about two 5770 in the future...), and the antec 902 case. Not sure about the following: RAM (but will probably go for 4-6 DDR3 1600), PSU or coolers for overclocking. Have no idea about monitor... Will most likely go for a 22".

I will buy from overclockersUK and, if I can, some parts from e-bay. I've heard too much bad stuff about PC World to buy a system from them :(

I have never OC'ed a system myself and my experience of putting together comps from scratch is limited. Hence the original post :)

Hey, drop me a PM with requirements, and budget and i'll see what I can pull up..

I have been building PC's for about 12 years, i'm sure there will be others on here who will recommend me, without blowing my own trumpet :)

Let me know. oh, and avoid OverclockersUK, they are one of the more expensive sites, with worse service, I would recommend ebuyer.com and/or aria.co.uk - they are who I have used for many years with no major issues and great customer service.

just get all parts yourself and build it. visit some sites like www.ebuyer.com (http://www.ebuyer.com) http://www.advancetec.co.uk
like i did 2 years ago. and i still don't need any overcloking, all games runs on full settings, full AA etc.
just get very good motherboard, go for asus let's say :
Asus P6T Deluxe V2 Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard (£200) cos you will need to leave some money for cpu, gpu.

Agreed, ebuyer.com. Great service for budget price :)

Thanks for the replies!

I won't buy an Alienware system as I can't seem to justify the price for that kind of 'looks' :)

Ghozer, in a couple of days I will pm you a list of the stuff that I've come up with so far. It will probably be over my budget so some tweaking will have to be done.

Also, the main reason for buying from OCUK is because I can then take full advantage of the forum over there. But then again, better to have some more cash to spend on other stuff :)

Thats fine Practical, i'm sure we can come with something... the main points you shouldn't skimp on are the motherboard (as already said) power supply, (you don't want to get a cheap-o that goes pop and takes the rest of the machine out with it) and RAM (good ram = stability, especially during OverClocking, which you shouldn't need to do any way)....

Oh, and ebuyer have a forum, and were here... why would you need OCuk's forum? ;)

from my experience, they offer bad advise with regards to alot of things, for what reason I can only imagine :)
