desktop & work and maybe gaming. not the newest games though. the latest is probably gonna be half life 2

Buy something second hand. A £100 base unit nowadays should do what you want.

your only gona need maybe a duel core 2gig ram at min 200gig hdd and maybe a good 512mb video card would do you most shops around £350-£400

or as neeeeeeeek says a second hand unit is just as good or a recondition one ?
