Having bashed it against something, my friend's toenail turned black a month or two ago.

Now it has started to come lose and looks like it may fall off soon. I was shown it tonight.... Mmmmm.

I tried to remain calm. My words said 'Oh, that looks OK, it's natural'.

However my eyes said 'Get that freakin' evil toe nail thing away from my face!!! Argh!'.

Any advice?

sorry but if it is dead and starting to come off your best bet is to pull it off and bandage your toe up and let it re-grow again mate!!

ewww :gag:
this happened to a friend of mine a while ago and i was shown it too .... and gagged ... he could lift it up and there was all this stringy yellow stuff under it .....
ANYWAY....
i'd say just leave it to come off naturally ... it'll happen eventually. And a new nail will start growing soon

We had a Canadian band called Ist that played a few times in the rock bar. One night the lead singer sang barefoot, caught his toenail on the carpet and ripped it completely off. We rather clumsily bandaged him up but saved the toenail on a tiny plinth inside a little plastic dome.

It was always referred to as the 'Toenail of Ist' and became one of the ornaments on the back bar until we had to move out! In our idler moments we invented whole legends around that toenail in an Indiana jones/holy grail kind of way, we even speculated what it would be worth on ebay if the band became world famous....
We showed it to other bands and tried to blag body parts from them so we could make a display feature.....very disappointing response, musicians just ain't what they used to be. Keith Moon would have obliged!

Sad to relate tho, the 'Toenail of Ist' is no more.....

It came up in conversation last week and Buffy fessed up to having thrown it out
I can't even begin to describe my sense of shock that she could so lightly part with such a treasured piece of our rock history!
Some people....or so it seems to me, just have no appreciation for this kind of thing :suspect:

Unless it is really, really hurting your friend (come on we know it's really you but you don't want people thinking you're gross!) then I would leave it.

When it is either ready, or there is another nail pushing it out, then it will fall off. Try and put some of that gauze that doesn't stick to the wound on it and then a small toe bandage on.

If it is really painful go to the doctor, they can best provide info on what do, and I can't think that pulling it out is the best at all!

Just my opinion!

I am going to puke. Toesnails - yeuck. They serve a purpose but do we have to talk about them and the gunk when one gets ripped off? C'mon you lot - have some pity for a blokes stomach.

I cannot even eat popcorn cos of the shells - Eeeeewwww!

Leave it alone. Cover it up. Keep it clean. And when it comes off - do not leave it on the floor for someone else to find.

I had a fingernail that turned black after dropping a dumbell on it.
It was loose and wobbly for ages, but not wobbly enough to come off. It kept getting caught up on stuff, every time I looked at it, it made my tummy turn.
Eventually it came off when I was changing the dressing on it,

just pull it off, the black is bruising underneath if I remember correctly. Another nail will probably have already started to grow.

This has happened to me a couple of times.

Keep it bandaged - replace daily if possible - old nail will eventually come away of its own accord leaving new nail underneath.

Don't pull it, it'll come away when its ready.
When it drops off there will be a cute little baby nail growing underneath!

This has happened to me. Mine eventually came off of it's own accord, when a new nail had grown underneath. So I'd suggest leaving it, if you pull it off now the new nail may not be fully grown, in which case you will in be in for a nasty case of ingrown toenail.

My wife at one time went through a time of actually pulling her toe nails off. I am talking the entire nail. (Hang on while I puke) .... Dunno if it helped her at the time but she reckons it did not hurt. A few years down the line and she has small nails growing back to replace the ones torn off.

I hope she eventually manages to grow them back properly.

The toenail should be pulled off if it's not too painful when it starts to be pulled. If it doesn't hurt much all the skin around it will be dead and it's better off than on. If hurts a lot though leave it for a while or it might get infected..

Can we let the toenail thread die please? Pretty please.

I do not have to be eating to feel like being sick.

Enough of the toenails, thankyou.
