I normally go to every friday nite-always loved it there but over the past few weeks, there has been so many fights. Some quite big too! On both the bottom and top floors.I wudn't care so much as the fact that last friday, me and my mates cudn't get out the way coz of the dancefloor was so packed. It was quite scary! :o

Has anyone else noticed this recent trend?

Entry too cheap, poor door control will lead to this type of thing unfortunately.

Friday night is always a "rough" night - tend to get a lot of underage kids in too and the atmosphere is generally a bit hostile (whatever you do don't knock into someone!!). Saturday night is similar prices but a better atmosphere. I agree with Micky that its a lax door policy that makes it this way, whereas they tend to be a bit stricter on saturdays.

Well i find it far from strict on any night they're open. I see loads of people get turned away. Whenever my mates get turned away from GC1, they always go to Leadmill or kingdom and get in.
Have you tried Kingdom or Leadmill on a Friday? Now thats an unstrict door.

Personally i've never seen a big fight in there. I've seen a few small scraps, but nothin major. You wanna try Manchester for real fights! Seen a few outside, but never inside.

I used to work the doors a few years ago and they've got a pretty good team down there. Know what they're doing.

Why not try askin/speakin to someone thats work for them and see what they've got to say about it? Usually if you make complaints to big companies you get freebies as compo!

I used to work there until the end of May. You have no chance of getting anything from them - they don't look after the staff very well, never mind customers!!!

I am originally from Manchester and have never seen a fight as big as some of the ones that have kicked off right under my nose in GC1.

Agreed. Apart from the pillock who worked my bar area on a CrasherClassics night and refused to throw out a girl who had been very close to bottling a member of my staff because she had been chatting him up 10 minutes previously :suspect:

Sounds very odd to me! I know a couple of people who work there and they say they really enjoy it! Sure they said something about new managers??

I'd recommend starting a petition to revive BED but I think its past that now...

EDIT (to add a really bad joke): It's well past BEDtime :hihi: sorry :help:

Well, given that the BED building now has no roof and the walls are part demolished, I suspect it isn't going to re-open in the near future....

gatecrasher is easily the best club in sheffield.

aspeople have mentioned, more people get turned away from GC1 than any other club i have been to in sheffield, i think the doormen on a whole generally do a good job.

and i have only ever seen one big fight in GC1 in all the times i have been in there, and that was about 2 years since.

overall, quality club, with a quality night on mon/wed/thur/fri :D

especially friday with the classic cheese in the bottom room

Republic is an awful club with awful music.Ive expressed my anger towards that place many times on here so i wount go into it.
When i used to go i saw one large fight and thats it.Ive since been going to the leadmill and as you point out its a very relaxed dress code (and i asume what your saying is that because republic is becoming lax there fore scallies are getting in) and ive never ever once seen a fight , large scale or small or even a bit of handbag pushing.
Go to the mill......

Regulars....... erm NO! ive been to republic 4 times in my life, and ive promised myself never to go back..... The lay out is ****, the staff are **** and the people, well, a world of there own!! the RIP thing was abit of a **** take, BED had class, you look at who played there over the 4 years it was open and yourll understand! Now if i want to go out anywhere, i go to Leeds or Nottingham, I do like The Fez/Zero reminds me of what clubs should be like, NOT full of cocks with shiney shoes on, drinking till there sick, fighting with each other for no reason and going home with a Heffer!!

The bar staff do a bl**dy good job considering. They do very long shifts - they arrive 2 hours before the club opens and don't leave for a good couple of hours after it closes. The opening and closing procedures are designed to cause as much fuss as possible. I left there due to the stress. You might find that funny but it really was serious and making me very ill.

And to be honest, the problem is not really with the procedures there, I know that they're there for good reasons, but the customers who demand that THEY should be served there and then and if not get violent with staff. It's not the bar staffs fault that they are understaffed, or that their bar is busier than anybody elses, yet people still get very angry and very violent towards them

The shifts are the same as in pretty much any nightclub as are the opening and closing procedures

There is a certain amount of flexibility though. Most places will do opening and closing stock counts. They way that the management decide to carry out these stock-takes is up to the individual managers, some places get all staff involved, some only allow supervisors to count stock, and others leave it all up to management. Another aspect is the cleaning - some places clean extensively at night, others prior to opening, some throughout the night. Again it is up to management. I don't know how Gatecrasher do it now as management has changed considerably and they were only speculating change when I left :)

My previous post about the staff at GC1 was directed at Gatecrasher purely because that was who the previous poster had mentioned. I would think staff working at any nightclub will have to put up with similar things :)
