View Full Version : Am I the only person that hates football?
Football season started again today. Most of the radio stations that I listen too while I am at work have football commentary on them, can't think of listening to anything more boring. Just wondering how many other people hate football.
Sorry, looks like you're the only one. :D

Kristian 07-08-2005, 10:51 The guy is at work though; maybe it's not just his decision on which stations gets played?

well if the majority have spoken.....:hihi:
Im not really that bothered about it, unless its England playing and then its just a good excuse for a **** up
SilentStatic 07-08-2005, 21:31 I don't hate football, just overpaid footballers
Football in itself is a great game - tho not something I watch/play nor support. I just don't like the fact that they all get paid so much and that people witter on endlessly about it.
I always laugh when guys sit round at lunch in my canteen and talk about players/positions/tactics as if they would obviously be able to do a much better job at management than the manager of whatever club. As if!
lazyfish 08-08-2005, 09:22 I'm a season ticket holder at my club, but I'm completely fed up with football being commodified and trendy and used in adverts and televised in every pub and everyone being expected to like it. When I meet somebody who doesn't like football I find it a real breath of fresh air. I wish it would go back out of fashion like in the 80s.

????????????????
jackthedog 08-08-2005, 10:46 Yeah, I hate it too.
ReginaldD 09-08-2005, 00:01 I love football, although I go to plenty of away matches with wednesday and have seen the ugly side. I think the football itself is good but fans go over the top with rivalries there is nothing with a bit of friendly banter. But all the idiots who go to the games are a waste of oxygen which could be used by my good lungs. Furthermore football gets far too much coverage in the media i like it but i also like other sports and coverage should be split a bit more.
i like it...but what i hate is people that dont watch it then suddenly when england play they know it all and are the biggest fans. pah!
I love football.
Nothing can compare to the atmosphere and sense of belonging. You're sat there wanting exactly the same thing as a few thousand people sat around you.
And when things go right, there's nothing like the sound of the chanting etc.
i hate it too - it's just so boring, wouldn;t mind if i could get away from it, but it;s on telly, radio and in all the pubs

What I hate is people who moan about football, if you dont like it, there are other channels, other radio stations and other pubs. Simple as.

This is of course true, but sometimes it is inescapable.
I used to work in newcastle. I got seriously sick of almost being an outcast because I didn't support a football team. It ran:
"Who dya support then?"
"I don't really follow football tbh"
"Oh"
And that was it. No other conversation was offered. I think this is a bit sad. Mainly because there is more to life than sport, and secondly because there is more to sport than football.
Also, I used to be able to predict the mood of the office by following the achievements and failures of Newcastle united. They were like little grumpy kids when they lost. Quite pathetic really!

If someone is willing to pay you £100K a week to do something you love, well, you're just going to smile and take it off them aren't you.
It's also worth considering the tax revenue that would be lost if footballers were paid less. This is a situation I often pose to those people who think Nurses should be paid the same as footballers...

My wife absolutely hates it, so to this end I have Sky Sports, Prem Plus, Setanta Sports 1+2, plus a Multi-satellite system giving access to games from all over the world. I can usually find at least one game every evening. For instance last night it was Mypa47 v Dundee Utd in the UEFA Cup, pictures from BBC2 Scotland via the Sky box.
See what I do for her.

I think the point is that they shouldn't be offered 100k a week! Tax revenue, I've never heard that one before. Lets just consider that all you chaps could get into see football games a lot cheaper if they weren't being paid so much.

Yes its pathetic when people sit sulking all day coz some team lost a game. Its not like it was even the final or anything. That is what children do, not adults.

Is it pathetic to mope around if you get dumped then, or a relative/friend dies?
Believe it or not, football fans have the same emotional attachment to their clubs.

You're right, we could, but we'd have to wait a bit longer to see a doctor, or have the fire brigade put out your burning house....
exaggerated points, I know, but true nonetheless.

At work yes it is pathetic to do that. I suffered a bereivement recently and tended to keep my suffering seperate from the workplace. Elsewhere I have no problem with these reactions.

Fair enough.
Let's just agree to disagree.

redrobbo 12-08-2005, 14:15 I don't like football. I've never been to a match, and have no desire to do so. I don't understand the rules, team positions, or anything about the game. I dislike the fact that you can't park your car in the street where I live on match days. I hate it when it is on tv and the radio.
But........I hate it when the football season ends. That's because the cricket starts though! :hihi: :heyhey:
I had a husband and 3 sons, 3 of them dedicated sports players so football and cricket were force fed in our house,. now I find I can watch a game of football onTV with great interest
and as for cricket at the moment I'm glued to the set, England are looking to beat the ozzies
I can't wait;

But surely the Ground was there before you moved in, therefore you should have assessed all options.

matt1889 26-09-2005, 12:57 Typical wendy fan!!!!!! lol
Bad start to the season then all of a sudden they hate football!
meumeu77 28-09-2005, 15:16 Don't like it either but then maybe it's because I'm not a man. I prefer watching rugby. I find it more entertaining and the fans are nicer to the other teams' fans than in football.
fredsredhat 28-09-2005, 19:25 Nope i cant stand it either.I am sometimes made to feel an outcast at work because i didn't see that goal or dont have an opinion on who's managing whoever. everyone's talking about it and they may as well be talknig another language. what i do really enjoy is seeing Valantino Rossi Racing at 200+mph scraping elbows with other riders. Interesting fact but 9 times out of 10 someone who rides a bike doesn't like football. Out of all my biker friends i can name 3 that like football. (and two of them are female)
bigsteve 28-09-2005, 19:53 Instead of football on a saturday afternoon t.v what about topless beach vollyball?
