Does anyone know anything about slugs? These slugs are invading an ash tree almost all the way around it. I have looked up the type of slug- they are yellow slugs, but what is attracting them to these trees? Any know?

Slugs live off the leaves. I suspect they will be climbing up the tree to eat the leaves. Is it troubling you or something??

Urgh I hate slugs too. I've never seen them climb trees though

Perhaps there is something sweet - sap or something leeching from that particular tree that is attracting them?

One of the ways of getting rid of slugs is to put some beer i a bowl. The smell of the beer attracts them and they drown in it. Try putting a bowl at the base of the tree to 'trap' them?

The Tree Slug (http://www.jaederfeldt.com/klas/sniglar2/25.jpg) , Limax marginatus feeds mainly on lichens, but they tend to be darkly coloured.

The Pear Slug (http://whatcom.wsu.edu/ag/homehort/pest/pearslug.htm) can be found on many trees (including ash) eating the leaves. They are yellowy in colour but are not true slugs. They are actually the larvae of sawfly.

Most likely is the juvenile form of the Large Red Slug (http://www.gardensafari.net/pics/slakken/arion_rufus_hs2_1905.jpg) which has a parasitic variety which is know to climb into trees ready to fall upon unsuspecting mammals and suck their blood before laying their eggs.

Just caught a fishing program on sky. Suppose to be good for fishing with, especially the big black ones about 4 inch long.

These slugs are definately yellow slugs. Some 3 to 4 inches long. I am not trying to get rid of them, they are on a tree on the pavement outside my friends house and all seem to be coming from the Drains!:suspect:
