Hi,
I want to get a survey done on the house we're buying but am unsure of which company to use to carry it out.
I've done a search on this forum but can't see any actual company names, phone numbers etc for surveyors.
Anyone know any good ones?
Thanks
The surveyor we are using at the moment is pretty good, very detailed, and happy to talk over the results in detail and give you his honest opinion.
He spotted Japanese Knotweed in a house we nearly bought, saving us a lot of aggravation!
The company is Hale Saunders, based in Paradise Square.
We had a full structural on 2 properties with him, and the rate was cheap (£500 plus vat), though not sure if we got a preferential rate due to the company I work for having commercial dealings with Hale Saunders.
Good luck!
much obliged - will give them a call!
And, though of course I could do a google search right now, what on earth is Japanese Knotweed?!? Sounds like what I have with spring rolls usually!!
Hiya, np!
Japanese knotweed is a plant which grows through concrete, tarmac and mortaring(?). The roots go metres below ground and can cause structural issues. Its really hard to get rid of and the strongest weedkillers just make it dormant, even a bit of root the size of your smallest fingernail can regenerate and its a controlled substance which has to be removed professionally and buried 3m below ground, after treatment with weedkillers. It was exported from Japan as an ornamental plant in the 1880s, but it likes our climate more and has spread like wildfire - especially in wales....Bad thing to come up on a survey!!!

Hi
I can recommend Flint Ross (www.flintross.co.uk ) - they just did the full structural on our new house and sent an excellent, detailed report
They are also well known to estate agents and mortgage companies use them too - if you want floorboards inspecting though, you must have the carpet lifted first by the current owner.

Andrew Russell Associates- they are very good 0114 2554044
Andrew Russell are fantastic. We are using them for some structural advice at the moment.
Hale and Saunders did a building/structural survey for us and they were ok but they sat on the fence with their final report... saying we needed to get further surveys for basically everything else... basically covering their own back, which a lot of these surveyors do.
I'd defo go with Andrew Russell, they charge very competitive rates and are extremely knowledgeable and thorough in our experience so far.
